I'm considering enrolling in an online course for a MA TESOL or MA Applied Linguistics. However, I'm not sure if an online degree would be recognized by a Korean university for a lecturer position. Does anyone have any experience with employers questioning the validity of your degree? Also, any suggestions for good schools would be appreciated.

If you are going to stay in the overseas teaching field then go for it. I finished all my courses last November, and degree was awarded in April. I applied for 3 jobs and had offers from all 3. I didn't think that was too shabby for an "older" teacher.
Do your research about what program to enroll in. If you want info. about my program PM me. MacQuarie is good, and I tried them for a semester, but the administration side of it was a nightmare. Hopefully, they have cleaned up there act in that respect. Just PM me is you want to know more.
Korean universities are going for the MA's these days when they can get them. There are still lots of BA's running around, but I think you will see that change as these positions come into the market again (IMO)
Good Luck!

| The University of Birmingham, in England, is considered one of the best distance MA's in TESL/TEFL. I graduated last July, and went to England to attend the ceremony. The diploma is the same as if I attended classes on campus. The program has a site in Korea for administrative issues, plus you are assigned a tutor who lives in Korea for help with your 6 modules. I would recommend UofB to anyone, and can try to answer any questions you might have. |
