i just bought a second hand computer and want to install a free firewall,
any recommendations, the computer is quite old and slow so something light on would be better also any special configurations i should make, i will be using bit torrent but have read the previous thread on bittorrent
do i run the windows firewall at the same time
please post links where possible

| yes, and you could also get a router that acts as a firewall. So in other words a hardware firewall. |

Also, is this the only computer on the network? I mean do you only have this computer connected to the computer? In that case just get ZoneAlarm.
What are the specs of the system? |

Most people use Zonealarm. www.zonelabs.com I think.

Zonealarm is quite excellent but I hate when they do an update and there's a huge "are you SURE you don't want to buy the pro version?" thing you have to click thru. |

its a p3 600, 192mb ram and 8GB is what i was told
got it for 30000 won so not complaining- will get me thru till i save for a newy
i have just moved here and my 2 other flatmates will want to use internet as well so can you guys educate the moroon on routers -the best for our situation, brand models, where to buy and how much im looking at and how set it up

| If you are going to buy a router which I strongly suggest if you will have multiple PC's running is NETGEAR. You can upgrade the firware with english to make life easier. |

| When it comes to firewall, AV, and anti-spyware software, I am one for dishing out the money needed to get the best software for my computer. Go for a paid bundle BUT, avoid Norton. |

That all depends on if you have a network with many computers or not.
If you are the only computer on the network, ie connected directly to the modem then sure, you can buy software. But personally I still prefer a hardware solution. |
