Can anybody confirm the events of this email I received:
To whom it may concern:
If you or someone you know is teaching in Korea at a private institute
or university with false documentation such as a diploma from South
Dakota State University and/or fake transcripts, do yourself a big
favor:
There are over 50 foreigners in the Daejeon Immigration jail
awaiting deportation. Another Canadian just bit the dust this afternoon.
And by the way, there 450 plus in the Seoul Immigration lockup.
If you come forward now and go through immigration with a Korean
ombudsman explaining your situation before you try to bullshit your way
through the system, you can get off lightly. I talking about a
proactive approach to your circumstances. If immigration finds you
falsifying documents and lying at the immigration office or worse comes
to your workplace and discovers you with those false documents, you
won't be a happy camper.
The choice is yours!
Cheers! |

First of all, it does not sound official at all. I have never known government officials to use language such as happy camper and cheers. And I have a hard time believing those numbers of people in jail, and we have not heard about it in the news.
Second, South Dakota State University is a real school: http://www3.sdstate.edu/Athletics/Index.cfm
Perhaps that bad recruiter David Kang, or whatever his name was, seemed to create a lot of fake degrees based on that university.
Sounds like a foriegner or gyopo is onto you having fake documents. If you do have fake documents, then I hope they catch you. You deserve what you get. If you do not have fake documents, then laugh at it and send a nasty mail back.
What stupid idiot would turn themselves in over just leaving the country is beyond me.
My money is on it being a Canadian or Canadian Gyopo you know. My reasoning is because they named a USA school (not a Canadian one) as the illegal one. Also, the school name is not far from Canada, so it sounds like something a Canadian might choose by default. I am also judging by the language used, and writing style.

450 in the Seoul 'lock-up'? I think I'd know some of them if this were the case. |

The language they used...do you mean English?
You must be right because I have never heard of an American using proper English. |

That is not an official letter of any sort.
It does however reflect (maybe the numbers are off) the reality of what Immigration is doing about people with fake credentials. This is an excellent initiative on their part.
However, that email was laughable in its style and it cannot be mistaken for an official communication even with a great dose of imagination. |

Hey, you got me remembering things I had forgotten long ago. I now remember meeting some guy about 8 years who had a diploma from one of those State universities situated near the border. I remember thinking it was odd that a Canadian would go there since Canadian universities are probably cheaper. So I asked him why he went and he said it wasn't all that expensive because he got some student loans and scholarships. Is that possible? |

Wow! Using almost non-existant information, with nothing but the power of your mind, you've managed to deduce exactly who sent the letter!
Why are you wasting these amazing talents on ESL when you could be out finding Osama Bin Ladin for us? |

I never said it was an "official letter" from a Korean at immigration. In fact, it was from a person who heads a group in the foreign community with close contacts. He was just trying to warn us foreigners of what is going down. My question was whether or not any of you guys know of this? Not, about the validity of the sender and my credentials...
Jeez man, next time I'll think twice before I post something! |

Yes. For several years when I was coaching football in Alberta, some of my players would go to Weed, California (University of California), North Dakota (Jamestown, Dickenson State, and Minot State) on partial scholarships or even full scholarships, and some went on student loans from Canada. Thier belief was that being able to play in the NAIA (A league lower than NCAA 3) was better exposure to potential professional careers than playing in the CIS.
I don't think it helped.

Was it an athletic scholarship? Many Canadians go to the USA on athletic scholarships as Canadian universities don't allow them. Even if it wasn't an athletic scholarship, there are a lot more obscure scholarships out there for American universities than Canadian universities.
Some Canadian universities along the USA border have agreements with American universities to allow students to transfer between them, share credits, and even get discounts in tuition. I think of University of Windsor and Wayne State university. |

He didn't mention a fake Canadian university so it must be a Canadian? There are not a lot of legit universities in Canada in the first place so it's pretty hard to cook up a fake Canadian diploma mill. Anyone in Canada would instantly spot a bogus Canadian university. "Errrr... I wasn't aware there was a Royal University of Lethbridge". Now in America there are about 3 degree granting institutions in any city with a population of 200,000 or more... It's much easier to create a diploma mill that will pass under the radar.
South Dakota is not far from Canada? Depends on your definition of far. It's not far from the border. It's pretty far from any populated part of Canada.

Wow, not even a Canadian can say anything construed as negative about Canada on here without getting jumped on by mindmetoo.. Read my past posts. I am pretty straight-forward about where I am from and what I believe in.
I just made a guess as to where the writer is from. Being Canadian myself, it seems logical to me. |

Yeah I know a guy that got done in this huge round up. He had a fake degree from a recruiter.
But the funny thing is that, immigration emailed ahead to the school to say you have have 4 illegals working there. Anyway they picked three up on Thursday and apparently coming back today to pick up my friend.
I would sure as hell get out of dodge and wire all my money home ASAP if I was one of these guys. |
