Monday, a student in one of my youngest classes was repeatedly not paying attention and writing something in Korean instead of studying English. I got pissed and took her paper and ripped it.
It turns out that it was some homework. She told her parents. My boss had already had one bad experience with the girl's father--I heard her spend 15 minutes trying to explain to him why her daughter couldn't read English after a couple weeks. Anyway, my boss has had to apologize and kiss butt to both the girl's mother and father. She had me sit there while she talked to the father on the phone in case he wanted to talk to me but he didn't. She also had me apologize to the girl, which I did, as well as apologizing at least twice to the boss. She said, "You did a very bad thing."
Now I realize many people have had far worse experiences but now I'm depressed and pissed myslelf and feel like it's effecting my teaching. Later in the day the boss seemed even angrier and I saw a note she wrote on her desk criticizing how I was handling another class.
I'm wondering if this is the beginning of the end or she'll get over it. I don't know how long she'll hold a grudge or if being depressed over this is going to cause me to mess up worse. Anyway I'm wondering if this is the beginning of a downward spiral.
I'd appreciate what anyone has to say.
