A recruiter is still a recruiter, RBI does have a slightly better rep, but it still doesn't mean they care once they have placed you somewhere.
Just bite the bullet and write an incesere sp? apology letter, play the game and when you have your LOR tell them what you think of them, and keep the new teachers email for support, because no doubt she will face the same problems.
Also post the schools name here, maybe they need a little recognition. |

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.....I think it depends on the type of person you are. It's sounds like a bad situation you were in and it's places like this that give Korea the bad name that it has.
I am a very vindictive person and I would have most definately written an apology letter. I would have said that I was sorry that I was trying to do my job, I was sorry that I gave a shit about the students learning English and most importantly I would have apologised for being stupid enough to have taken the job in the first place. As for the K women, she would have got a slap(verbally of course). I would also broadcast the bad news about this school very loudly!
I think it's important that teachers have the confidence and good sense to not put up with these kind of workplaces.
Anyway, good luck with the new job. |

Can I ask you something? Did it look like a bad place to begin with? I mean did you land there out of the blue from North America? Or did you get the job when you were already here after an interview. If this was a blind date I could understand it. But the sheer evilness of this place...could it not have been sensed at the outset (if you were interviewed in country)?
I'm stuck on being here and being interviewed. Then you can see the people and sniff out such hideouts for evil. |

Well, you could post something like Ronald's Eggplant Ignonimouse in
Badan dong, Husan.
There are other places to post your message as well. I noticed that school is already on one of the blacklists.
Good Luck and thanks for the heads up. |

andrew, I'm really sorry to hear how you were treated. That's horrible but no need to keep dwelling over whether you should or should not have done something. What's done is done and you should worry more about the NOW.
Have you found another place to work? Have you recieved your resignation letter? If so, I think you should move on, don't worry about the new teacher and just think about yourself. I'm sure she's got a lot more to worry about than a handphone not given to her. That should be the least of her worries from the sounds of it.
Once you get that release letter AND a new job please please please make sure you BLACKLIST that school on every and all sites. Here's one http://www.geocities.com/hagwonblacklist/list.html I encourage others also here to post blacklists too for him to get busy on. Don't wait!
As for RBI, it is not your responsibility to inform them directly. It would be nice, however, if you informed them after you've recieved that release letter and point Bridget in the direction of those blacklists I just mentioned. She is a good professional person as far as I'm concerned. |

Sometimes a boss promises a certain thing to his customer, and by making a decision that the boss didn't authorize you to make, you screw that up. So, if the boss tells Mom X and Mom Y that their children will sing song S on day D, and they come to the hagwon to find children X and Y going over their A, B, Cs, it's not that the parents are upset with you but that they're upset with the hagwon boss who promised something ridiculous.
This is not just a hagwon phenomenon, it's the ages-old conflict between marketing/sales and engineering/production that has existed in all industries since the dawn of the sharpened stick and blunt rock trade. |

PS This is a situation which *definitely* calls for a cleverly crafted "apology" that any native speaker would read as a warning... "I'm sorry that I didn't bow deep enough to the wonjangnim. I'm sorry that I didn't allow children to beat me with sticks when they wanted to. I'm sorry that I attempted to teach more than the mindless chants in the textbook...." |

You should have b.itch slapped some sense into that director and demanded a letter of release. You should have gotten the phone numbers of some of your students parents and called them up with a Korean friend to explain to them how bad the school really is. That would have put a fire up under their a.ss!
Make sure you blacklist the school all over the place and maybe even do something evil like post up the phone numbers of your Korean ex-coworkers on some random dating site with a message entitled "Hot and Horny and just waiting for your call" |

I would just put it all behind you now.....you got the release letter which gives you a breathe of fresh air, just make sure the same situation doesn't happen again...
All this talk of vengence doesn't help ultimately in the end as if he finds out then he can sue your ass for libel which could land you in a dofferent barrel of trouble...
Just get on with it |

Revenge is sweet though. It's also fun, not to mention great for stress-relief. Hahahahaha Bahahahahaha. |

Revenge. Huh. You're a hagwon teacher who works with kids. Behaving like a mafia thug between assignments teaching kids English? Kinda out there IMO. |

Some people have no business calling themselves teachers.... or advice givers for that matter. Learn Yoga, have a drink, take a walk, go see comedy or see a shrink even if you think revenge is good for stress-relief. geez. |
