If the prizes are already decided, who pockets all the extra?? Shouldn't most of the money go to the payout? 22 players covers the above. Seems to me someone's looking to pocket a hell of a lot of money.

Ah, so I assume the allowance is estimated? Also, any way to confirm the ability of the organizer(s) to actually provide the seat at the BFDC? Also, why not cash instead of the prizes? Many of the participants will ahve no use for it given our semi-itinerant liives.

Sorry, just not interested in wasting time and money on a rip-off.

Yo, einstein, then don't participate! I'm sure the organizers of this event are just crushed that you won't be there. I mean, with your amazing ability to play well with others and all...

You're a sterling example? Christ... Hey, if someone claims to be able to serve up tickets from a tourney in what seems to be a bar, well... Is gambling outside a casino legal? Doubt it. So, Einstein, going in without checking legitimacy is just plain stupid. Acting as if it isn't is equally stupid.

Is this sponsored by the Uri party?

Will it influence the Iraq Constitution vote?

Does Harriet Miers particularly like this tournament because it has to do with Texas?

Why is this on the CE forum?

Move this, Mods.

The first tournament went well. Around 40 or so participated. The tournament was hosted at a Bugsy's a casino bar in the Kangnam area. In regards to the legalities of gambling in Korea, it is illegal to run a gambling establishment without a licence for CASH prizes.

Chips and Joy has a regular game every night in which participants can redeem their chips for coupons. In turn, these coupons can be cashed out a different location. The same model is utilized by the video/pachinko gaming houses you see popping up throughout Seoul.

If your worried about getting raided by the cops or arrested and kicked out of the country, you shouldnt be. Chips and Joy was actually on the news very recently (SBS) and investigated by local police. Nothing transpired in terms of the investigation as the current laws protect the owners from any legal persecution. As for the legitmacy of the tournament organizers and prize payouts, Chips and Joy will not pack up and leave over night. It is in their best interest to honor all payouts and keep the game going.

Thank you. The tourney ticket is cool, but what the heck would I do with a big screen? Sell it, I suppose...

Yo, wannago, THAT's why you ask intelligent questions, dumbass.

Cheese'n'rice people, cool it.

I guess the two questions I would still ask are:

1. Why was the tournament investigated in the first place?
2. Is HoleeChow's generally a respectable ownership?

My guess on the second is, probably not, it's in Itaewon, but then, they probably don't want to get a bad rap, since they do seem to carry themselves as a "respectable" establishment.

1 - 50% of the casino bars were investigated within the past month. no charges were laid to my knowledge.
2 - this has nothing to do with holeechow.

+

1) If you saw the crap that gets on TV here and understood specifically to a tee what's going on, you'd laugh at the amusement; and
2) the DINNER is at holeechow

No, I do not have anything to do with this. But I do find it funny how scrutinizing people are about poker. It happens, folks. And not only white people from ESL message boards do it. Deal.

I was wondering why so many casino bars in my area shut down and why there were so many new ones starting up at the same time.
