Notice the date?
I found this on June 5.
Why do Korean newspapers do this?
A man holds a girl in front of a grave at the national cemetery for war dead in Dongjak-dong, southern Seoul, yesterday, ahead of the National Memorial Day today.

The Korea Herald (June 5, 2005)

because they put their papers to bed early, yeah its stupid for them and it stinks with sports results but hey the Reuters Seoul Bureau chief told me the English papers here are a joke and in general the quality of Korean journalism is one of the worst for a democractic society.

The picture??? Well I hope the grandfather taught the kid a lesson about the sacrafices for freedom that many people that made (especially americans here) and I hope she remembers it when she is asked to go to an anti-american rally when she gets older

I assume that this is done in order to ensure that the bitterness and resentment is passed on to succeeding generations.

That is funny and sad at the same time. I don't know how many kids under 12, even under 10, I have heard refer to Japan as "our enemy" or use some other "they are bad people" expressions.

Even if this was about America, and not Japan...

(I don't know why the society is still so war-minded. The only war that has not officially ended is with NK, the ones they figure are not a threat because they share the same race and blood.)

I knew it; just thought it was odd that a journalist would tell me it in front of a group of Koreans

i don't understand why they are stricter about who writes for them? i mean why not trake advantage of the fact that they are many english teachers in korea who could at least edit their terribly written articles.

I don't get it. The caption clearly says "yesterday". They aren't trying to pass off the photo as being on the same day. What is it?
