I looked up and down through the history, so I hope I'm not doing a repeat.
I'm an african american guy living in Asan-si, Choongchungnam-do. I've been here the better part of a year and will be here for quite a bit yet before I head back to the states for the hollidays. I forgot to attend to a certain matter before I left, however, and that was a haircut. So, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or experience in getting really curly hair cut in Korea? Or am I just wildly dreaming?
I know there are a number of places that cut western hair, but I'd never seen it specifically addressed if they do non-white non-asian hair. Even in the states I've had a couple real butcher jobs with people who have not worked with my kind of hair before. In a pinch I have gotten it cornrowed here a couple times, but its getting long and raggedy, so I was looking to expand my options - without buzzing it, that is.
I went to a place a while ago with a latina friend who has somewhat curly hair - and they did a pretty good job on her. But when I walked in the door some stylists audibly gasped - obviously wondering if I too was going to ask them for a cut. And when they realized I was just there to sit by, most of the employees crowded around and asked if they could touch my hair - I wasn't offended (hey, at least they asked ), but it didn't inspire much confidence.
I have weekends free and tend to travel a variety of places, so pretty much anywhere would be helpful. |

In Haebangchon in Seoul (5 min walk from Noksapyeong Station) there's a place that specializes in weaves, braiding, etc, mostly for an african-american clientele (the military base in close-by, so alot of military wives frequent it). i assume they'd be able to handle a 'fro, at least more than most other places would.
Unfortunately I don't live near there anymore, so I can't hook you up with the name or a phone #, but maybe someone else can help?

In Itaewon, across from the Seoul Motel/Mcdonald's complex, there is a place
that does exactly what you are looking for. |
