| Uh-oh! I didn't realize everything would be closed today, and I have a date with my cute Japanese classmate. Will restaurants or coffee shops open this evening? If not, will I be able to buy things at a supermarket to make dinner for her at my home? Egad, what poor planning... |

| Theaters, Starbucks, a handful of random restaurants, probably some street food stalls in 빮 will be open -- don't worry. |

| I'm really surprised, in Seoul at least, how many people are out and about and how many stores and restaurants are open today. The last time I was here for a Korean holiday, Solleol 2004, Seoul was a ghosttown. |

| Itaewon was really lively today.. that being said.. Chilis (the burrito place) is closed for all 3 days.. so was the Turkish 'Istanbul' nearby. Everything else in Itaewon seemed to be open though. |

| Weird. To my great relief all the coffee shops and restaurants in my area (Beomgye, Anyang) re-opened at about five o' clock. The date went well. Thanks for your concern. |

| Any recommendations for nice restaurants around Beomgye? My gf lives there but I've not managed to find anywhere I want to go back to yet (with the possible exception of the mexican fusion place - that was ok, I guess). |

I assume you've seen the pedestrian-only shopping street there (outside Beomgye station exit 2). There are loads of good restaurants. Naturally many of them are Korean so you have to look at the pictures rather than reading the menu. If you walk to the central (biggest) fountain, there is an Italian restaurant called PALIO which is just *super*, and across from it is a japanese restaurant that's not bad. Also, look up. There are a good four stories of coffee shops, pizzerias, bars, hofs, PC bangs, etc, all active. I honestly have never been to the same bar twice, there are so many to explore. The coffee shops include a Holly's but my favorite is Eins... see if you can find it, it's upstairs of a Mr Pizza.
Finally, you could just take the number 1 or 3 bus about fifteen minutes to Anyang 1st street (an yang il bun ga) which is an even livelier pedestrian shopping/partying zone. |

Aye - tried many of the Korean restaurants on that street but haven't been struck by greatness in any of them. Ah well - as you say, there are plenty to try!
Some good leads for the foreign restaurants though, and the coffee shop sounds good - thanks. |

There's a Mexican restaurant and Vietnamese restaurant on that street too. The Mexican one is OK- don't get your hopes up about it, but it's decent enough for a fix. Not too expensive, either. The Vietnamese is that chain one (Viet Pho?), that has some kick-ass spring rolls (with that peanut sauce stuff) and soup/noodle things.
Afraid I can't give exact names or directions right now, but they're definitely on that street. I'll put 'em up later if noone else can. |

I've never seen a Mexican restaurant on that street. I'm very intrigued now. Give me a hint as to where it is? |

It's about halfway down that street, on maybe the 3F of a building (on the right as you look towards Beomgye station). I don't remember the name, sorry, but there is a fusion restaurant above it (which isn't terrible either).
It's my turn to go to see her this weekend, so I'll note down the name... |
