Whenever we're under a ginko tree, my GF breathes in and goes "ahhh I love the smell of a ginko tree." At first I had no idea what she was talking about, other than the faint smell of some garbage on the air. A couple weeks later I got a bigger whiff of something garbage smelling. Again my GF raved about the smell of the ginko tree. I made the connection. "Oh, that smells good to you? Kind of smells like garbage to me."
Her ultimate weakness is those roadside grilled squid carts. We can have just stuffed ourselves at a Sizzler buffet (hey, nothing but first class dining when you're with me) and one of those squid carts will bring her to a screeching halt and she'll buy a bag of that stuff. The smell to me is mildly offensive but to her it seems to start her salivating.
I'm just the hell glad she doesn't find that silkworm stuff appealing. |

I'm conscious without being overwhelmed by the scent of ginko trees certain times of the year. They're often planted along busy streets, so the impact is diluted by a mixture exhaust fumes and food smells wafting from the street vendors.

Yes, many get into that blackened, crackly, outdoorsy smell of squid (cuttlefish perhaps?). My weakness -- the electric chicken trucks. (screeeeeech!)

| I have to hold my breath and speed walk past the squid carts. I will really hurl if I breathe in too deeply. |

Not sure but I think he might be referring to that jwee-poh stuff...that black/brown/purple really thin circular fishy stuff that's heated up on a rock or in a pan or right on a burner. It's usu eaten in the same way as the dried squid/cuttlefish is.
Pretty good post. There's some ingredient in "moo", or pickled radish/turnip, that my wife says smells delicious but makes me gag...not sure what it it. I still really like the end result; it's just something in the process that's godawfully horrible. |

You haven't lived until you've chased your girlfriend around the apartment with parmesan cheese because she thinks it stinks.
No, I have not personally done this. |

I think it's the seafood version of bologna or something.
It actually wouldn't be too bad to me if it wasn't so sugary. |

I'm not sure what part of the fish it's made from, but this is what it is if you didn't know(I didn't):
SLICED, SPICED, PRESSED, and DRIED FILEFISH (or something along those lines)
filefish ۣ梥 ġ
filefish ( P ) Pronunciation Key (flfsh)
n. pl. filefish or filefishes
Any of various chiefly tropical marine fishes of the family Balistidae, related to and resembling the triggerfishes, with a flat body and rough spiny scales.
filefish
n : narrow flattened warm-water fishes with leathery skin and a long file-like dorsal spine
= slices of dried meat seasoned with spices
And here's the ugly little fella:
