For those considering working at Dongseo University in Busan: forget it! Advertised at 12 hours per week for 2 million won, the reality is obscenely different, with teachers expected to log in anywhere up to 35 hours per week between two campuses (one a 40 minute subway ride away) and an adult and kindergarten language institute. Split shifts, Saturday work and 4 weeks vacation per year are all par for the course. If youre still interested, then a 20-minute mountain climb to get to work and an office filled with burnouts, alcoholics and bums may just be enough to dissuade you from signing on the dotted line.

Most of the teachers there are working 20 hours a week if that; 12 hours a week is the contract, but of course there are overtime hours. You know, like EXTRA PAY on top of your monthly salary... that kinda thing.

Take a cab up the hill if you can't make the climb.

All of this stuff about unis having kindergartens and extracurricular (sp?)adult classes they want their instructors to teach is really going to start making these jobs look less attractive in the future, I think.

Already seem bad to me. How many people working at universities calling themselves "Professors" want to be seen working at a kindergarten in the morning hours. I even met a guy who called himself a professor because he worked at a college.....KIDS COLLEGE Razz
