Korean laws can be erratic at best.
Expect the enforcement of them, should you break them to be equally erratic.
Theoretically if you overstay a visa the Korean government is well within their rights to toss you in prison. Probably it'll just be a fine.....100,000 a day..? But why test it...?
Get the extension.

I overextended my visa by a few days. This is what happens:

you arrive at the airport. Chick at check-in counter:

"Your visa has expired. You need to go to the immigration office here at the airport."

Immigration officer with big frown on his face: "Let me check the computer to see if you've done this before. I see you haven't. Sign this form promising you will never do it again. If you do, you'll be fined _________ won/day."

Sign the form, you're finished.

Personally I'd say it is better than getting an extension. Why? Because you don't have to go out of your way (just go to the office in the airport) and worry about if you have all the right documents and stuff. Sure, you can only do it once, but better than never.

I should note that this was 4 years ago, but I doubt that part of the law has changed. So uh, if you live far from an immigration office (like i did then), I'd say go ahead, risk it. If you are pretty close to it, then maybe it isn't worth taking a chance.

i had an e-2 visa BTW.

depends on the day, depends on the person, depends on the weather.....

I overstayed my visa for 2 days, and I didnt even realize it. My visa expired a week before my E2. Thought I was fine. Never even checked my passport, just checked my E2.

But at the airport I had to go to immigration (or what ever that office was) and I had no trouble. Had to pay 30,000 won for a single entry visa, but thats all.

No searches, I just stumble across your posts from time to time. I rather enjoy seeing what nonsense you're up to though. Very entertaining. Kinda like watching a little kid having a temper tantrum.
