I get paid in pounds and have a UK bank account and credit card that give me a very good rate with no loading, so I haven't bothered to get a Korean credit card. Unfortunately (1) most travel agents and airline call centres (amongst other places) don't accept UK cards. Unfortunately (2) most of them don't realise this, and simply try twice, give up exclaiming my card must be broken, and leave me stranded (or paying an extra ten or twenty man won at the airline offices). One place in Yongsan actually managed to get Visa to put a block on my card somehow.

Can anyone recommend a good travel agent that (without doubt) takes international credit cards? I need to take a weekend visit to Singapore.

Thanks.

Excellent stuff. Cheers!

Bonus that I like what I've heard about them round these parts too.

Hypnotist, I too use UK plastic but unlike you have never had a problem here. I do usually call the issuer and say that I am "travelling" so they can expect charges from Korea on mycards (and my wife's).[/i]

Interesting. The problem is with the Korean clearing bank used by the outlet rather than my bank though - none of the two travel agents my company uses, nor Korean Air's internet service, nor Korean Air's call centre, nor Lufthansa's Korean call centre have been able to accept my card. In the case of KA, they did explicitly tell me (eventually) that their offices were the only place they could accept foreign cards.

I've never had a problem with restaurants, but clothes shops can be iffy, computer shops a lottery, and travel (so far) has been really difficult. And as for finding an ATM - don't get me started Wink

hmmm, I usually use my Korean plastic here but might use my UK cards a bit more then to see if a problem crops up and report back.

When I went to pay for the DMZ Tour through the USO last year they claimed they couldn't get my [NZ]Visa card to work, so I had to ATM transfer the money, which was a pain. However, my friend (with a US credit card) had hers go through, no problem, on the same day. Confused

Unique Travel (Itaewon) and Tops Travel (Jongno) have always taken my foreign credit card as well.
