Hey guys, I was just wondering how you pay for visa, mastercard bills from Korea. I asked my bank here and they said that I would have to wire money to my account and then pay them on the internet but isn't there an easier way to do this. In your opinion is it better to save up your money in your account back at home or is it safe to save it up in an account in Korea. Thanks guys......... |

I set up a joint checking account with my mom in our bank at home. I send money to that account and she writes the checks. (I also have a Korean credit card, so I rarely use my American credit card.) |

Set up an account at firstib.com. Wire your money to them - they have an online billpay - free.
But, really, almost every bank and/or credit union can do that for you nowadays.
You'll feel a little bit better about your finances if you take control of them yourself. Depending on relatives should be only a short-term or special circumstances solution. |

Not really. This is pretty much how it's done. If there's another way, I haven't heard of it.
My bank wires money automatically and I have everything set up online. So, as soon as the money registers to my account at home, I make it disappear in about 5 minutes. *sigh*
Even my student loan payments are set up for automatic withdrawal. The only check I have to write is for my storage unit. |

My parents pay all my bills back home. They have signing rights to my IRD account, bank account, student loan, actually they have power of attorney! I was prepared when I came here. Im saving up my money here cos it costs way too much to wire home all the time and Ill be taking home a nice lump sum for them... |

Can you set up online banking? I used to transfer money home to my regular account and then just payed visa and mastercard using online bill payment. Student loans and mutual funds came out of my account automatically because I set it up before I left. |

I have to wire my money back to my Canadian acct, but my bills are set up for automatic withdrawal from it on a certain date each month. Is that option not available in the US? |
