We all know that most Korean singers try to speak English in their songs & some do it half-way decent . A few people like BoA with Westlife, As One, and Baby Vox have recorded songs in English to put on their international releases. What do you think of this???

I ask only because last night I found Se7en's #1 hit, Please Come To Me, recorded in English. Here's a link to the video:

http://www.angelfire.com/bug/flirtatious/Se7en-Come_back_to_me_VIDEO_English.wmv

So what do you think????? Mr. Green

It s a manifestion of the korean schizophrenia which guides their every action - a desire to appear 'globalised' because one of the senior ajossis (KDJ) told them it was a 'good' thing afew years back tied in with the fact that they can't actually speak English, unlike some Swedish bands etc., who can even fake an accent. So they toss in a few words. 'As you know' S.Gorea is full of konglish/english words wherever you look. It makes them feel they are world players, when they are actually a country that has thrown out its ancient culture and repalced it with tat. The ironic thing is they are so up their own arse its untrue, whining on about their 'culture' and so on. Seoul is one big Starbucks/KFC/ McDonalds training camp , with crap pop songs with no seoul.

Welcome to the plasticland where the worst of the west meets the worst of the east.

The one that really gets me is the song with the chorus that says "Tell Me Whyyy" (or something) in the exact same fashion of that Backstreet Boys song that makes me want to destroy things everytime I hear it. I thought American pop was the worst on earth until I heard the vile rubbish known as Kpop.

Though, Casker is a good Korean artist. Anybody who is into Acid Jazz can relate...

Lemon's Monthly Tip For Annoying Korean Friends
June Edition

Next time "Kimbap" by "Jadu" comes on and you're around Koreans, start singing "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree" to it. Yes, it's the same song.

If you have success with that, serenade them with the 1970's Burger King jingle "Have it Your Way" to HOT's "Candy".

I did not know that Lemon!! Laughing Laughing

BTW I've had a couple of email conversations with some of the overnight (UK time) presenters on BBC radio 2, they agree K-pop is some of the worst stuff they've ever heard and wonder how I tolerate it. I responded with large quantities of Buffett, Springsteen, Willie and Frank Laughing

...Baby One More Time
Britney Spears

Oh baby baby

Oh baby baby

Oh baby baby
How was I supposed to know
That somethin' wasn't right here?
Oh baby baby
I shouldn't have let you go and
now you're out of sight, yeah

Show me, how you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now what we've got

My loneliness is killin me
[and I]
I must confess, I still believe
[still believe]
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby, one more time

Oh baby baby
The reason I breathe is you..
Boy you got me blinded..
Oh baby baby
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
That's not the way I planned it

Show me, how you want it to be..
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now what we've got

My loneliness is killin me
[and I]
I must confess, I still believe
[still believe]
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time..

Oh baby baby
Oh baby baby
Ah, yeah yeah

Oh baby baby
How was I supposed to know?
Oh pretty baby
I shouldn't have let you go..

I must confess
that my loneliness
Is killin me now..
Don't you know I still believe?
That you will be here
And give me a sign..
Hit me baby one more time

My loneliness is killin me
[and I]
I must confess, I still believe
[still believe]
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time

I must confess
that my loneliness
Is killin me now
Don't you know I still beleive
That you will be here
and give me a sign..
Hit me baby one more time

bad songs exist in any language. the trick is to pick and choose the stuff you find most to your liking.

and this is coming from the country that gave us such great acts like S Club 7 (now just S Club), the Spice Girls, and came up with the show "Popstars"? Laughing

Like Dan said, bad music can be found in any culture...being a radio DJ, I hear my fair share of crap (Ja Rule etc). But Korea has some dope music too...check out the hip-hop scene. they got some good stuff...drunken tiger, epik high etc.

Music comes in all shapes and sizes just like people. The great thing about music is, if you don't like, don't listen to it.

I think Korea has some great acts out there who can dance, but but singing for them becomes questionable. Have you ever seen those Korean Music Shows that are allllways on TV? All of the Kpop stars aren't plugged in. They mouthed words but don't actually sing. They are there to dance and show off.

An experience with this happened when I first came to Korea 9 months ago. A Korean friend took me to see M Showcase and one of the singers in one of the big groups was not singing but flirting with one of the girl dancer. And it is blantenly obvious!!!

>. Pretty boyz & girls ( whether Korean or what have you ) who dance well & sing yet DON'T write their own songs OR play an instrument have no right to call themselves "musicians".

( p.s. Disco still sucks Laughing )

I have no claim to pretension, I know very little about music, but if you really are enjoying your Korean experience and in your 20's or early 30's and get out and about in the night scene, then there is no way in hell you haven't had some memory linked to K-pop songs. Korea is new, fresh and fun for most people coming out of north america, and having K-pop linked to some Korean excitment makes the music worth listening too. For instance, I was having a very fun summer a few years back when that D.J.DOC song 'run to you' was everywhere. When I hear that song today, it makes me remember that summer. I guess what I am saying and think I have said this before, but if you want to blend with the locals and understand them, then listen to what the locals listen to. K-pop is big do to great hype and advertising. I mean who doesn't like checking baby vox on TV? It is the whole image which you have to buy into and not the quality of music.

the problem is, koreans virtually ignore the real talent in this country (yes, it's extant), so you and i will never hear it unless we get lucky.
