Well, well, looks like some heads are about to roll in DC. About damn time!

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/051018/18whwatch.htm

Quote:
Sparked by today's Washington Post story that suggests Vice President Cheney's office is involved in the Plame-CIA spy link investigation, government officials and advisers passed around rumors that the vice president might step aside and that President Bush would elevate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"It's certainly an interesting but I still think highly doubtful scenario," said a Bush insider. "And if that should happen," added the official, "there will undoubtedly be those who believe the whole thing was orchestrated – another brilliant Machiavellian move by the VP."

Said another Bush associate of the rumor, "Yes. This is not good." The rumor spread so fast that some Republicans by late morning were already drawing up reasons why Rice couldn't get the job or run for president in 2008.

"Isn't she pro-choice?" asked a key Senate Republican aide. Many White House insiders, however, said the Post story and reports that the investigation was coming to a close had officials instead more focused on who would be dragged into the affair and if top aides would be indicted and forced to resign.

"Folks on the inside and near inside are holding their breath and wondering what's next," said a Bush adviser. But, he added, they aren't focused on the future of the vice president. "Not that, at least not seriously," he said.

I agree that it's about time.......actually way past time, but unfortunately I doubt very much that it will be Chenny's head. One of the lesser beeps will probably be the scapegoat.

Like the piece you posted says, "it's a highly doubtful scenario". Confused

Yeah, doubtful, but I wonder if he won't play the health card. That moron scotter libby will take the hit and Cheney will resign sighting "health reasons". Rice is unlikely but maybe whoever the Republicans have annoited for 2008 will be put into the VP spot as an pre-election power move.

This about says it all. Lets protect the protoplasm, but forget about all of the poor children and adults, and the people who have died in Iraq for their foolish war. We really must keep our priorities straight.

I would love to see a truly "pro-life" administration. The current one seems to be oblivious to the value of human life- unless it is the vote-getting value of the embryo (or brain-dead people on life support).

Condi said the other day (Monday?) that she didn't want to run for president. Maybe she'd like an appointment to the VeePship, but I doubt it.

It's a little premature to start choosing Cheyney's replacement.

OK, let's fantasise:

Cheney quits, for whatever reason.

Condi takes over.

Bush decides he can't hack it any more - for whatever reason, impeachment, booze, doesn't matter.

Wow, in no time, US has its first black head of state.

And its first woman head of state.

Wow.

And, if she is true to the beliefs of this administration, its first virgin! Cool

Sounds like they are stealing the script from The West Wing.

More likely play the TERROR card. Bush's popularity rating is at an all time low.

He'll obviously be preying for the next 9/11.

This one actually kinda works, too. As in, looking for a way out:

Cheney may be called in CIA leak case
By TONI LOCY, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney could be called to testify in the perjury case against his former chief of staff, a special prosecutor said in a court filing Wednesday.

Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald suggested Cheney would be a logical government witness because he could authenticate notes he jotted on a July 6, 2003, New York Times opinion piece by a former U.S. ambassador critical of the Iraq war.

Fitzgerald said Cheney's "state of mind" is "directly relevant" to whether I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the vice president's former top aide, lied to FBI agents and a federal grand jury about how he learned about CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity and what he subsequently told reporters
