The guy who serviced my computer(read: blew out my damaged hard drive and reinstalled windows on it) over the summer refused to give me the windows disk, and I need one.

Where can I get a copy of Win XP in English fairly inexpensively? ( 300K is too much)

Before anyone suggest Linux- if I were going that route, I'd still want a dual boot system, so I could get the hang of Linux relatively stress free, and keep windows as a security blanket. ( not because it's a better system, just because it's my comfort zone)

Yongsan station, go under the overpass after 10 am. There will be a guy smoking cigarettes next to a bunch of paper taped to the wall. 15,000 W and you'll having a working copy in a matter of minutes.

I suggest just downloading an .iso file and burning it onto a CD from either one of these sites. They also help you learn how to make the Windows so that it does all of the updating.

Cost: Just as good as the guy at Yongsan, but this is FREE

Enjoy

I downloaded one yesterday, and it was full of viruses- ( lucky I scanned it before using it) I'm definitely not going that route again.

Giant,
Your server has good download speeds 520kb/s average with a target of about 20 minutes to download the entire 616mb...

So this iso has SP2 slipstreamed into it? is it corp? or pro? I'm about ready for a re-install and will probably use your image.

Yes it has SP2 integrated, and it does not need activation. All you need to do is bypass the genuine advantage thing. And the cd-key is on the CD in the root in a txt file.

I downloaded it, and extracted the rar- but now what? Can I just burn that to disk?

Oh, and while I'm at it, I want to install windows on what's now the slave drive. I can set it to boot from there in the BIOS, but I don't want to mess with jumper settings if I don't absolutely have to. Will that cause any trouble, in the long term?

Yes, just burn that to disk.

When you boot from the CD, you will have the option to choose what drive you want to install to.

Preferably you should have your OS on your smallest drive and set to primary master, so your bigger drive is free for data.

If you want optimal speed, you should connect your OS drive as primary master, and then your DVD/CD drive with your secondary drive on the secondary IDE channel. That way your hard drives will have optimal speed. (Unless you are using S-ATA drives in which case forget what I just said Smile )

thanks!

if it's just a matter of speed, then I won't worry about it for the moment. I hate dealing with hardware stuff, and goes double when it's so dry and there's so much static in the air.

The old drive has been throwing errors once in a while, but I think it will be fine if it's only used for storage
