I'm renegotiating with my school to work there for another year. My current E2 visa expires on 28.12.05.

What EXACTLY do I have to do to teach at this school for another year?

(1) Contract
I have a new contract but I am still 'negotiating' some clauses.
Do both my Boss's have to sign the contract - or just the 'Director' ??
Do we need independent witnesses (like in Western countries)?

(2) Do I need a NEW E2 visa or an EXTENSION of my current E2 Visa?

(3) What is the Visa process?
Do my Director and I go to Immigration and/or the Education Office?

(4) What documents will I need?
For example: new contract, passport, passport photos, 'Alien' Registration card, Degree??? - Criminal and health check?

(5) How long does it take to get my new /extension E2 visa?
I want to leave the country on 23 .12.05 and return on 01.01.06.
I don't want to book airflights until I have a new visa to come back to teach in Korea.

First question: Are you with EPIK/GEPIK or something similar? If so, isn't there someone in Chuhng-joo to help with these kinds of things? The reason I ask is because you mentioned the Ed'n Office, criminal background check, and medical. Also, some of the numbers I quote may depend on where you're from.

You need your sig and your boss'(visa sponsor) - do things the same as you did them last year.

(2) Do I need a NEW E2 visa or an EXTENSION of my current E2 Visa?

You need an extension as long as you're working for the same people at the same place.

(3) What is the Visa process?

You should be able to go to immi by yourself.

(4) What documents will I need?

You need your new contract, business reg, passport, ARC, and 30,000won. Don't think you need your diploma and the other stuff for a simple extension. Anyone else?

I think it depends on the office. Your best bet is to try and get the extension prior to leaving. If you haven't booked a flight yet, you'd better get on it as you're looking at high(peak?) season. It costs you nothing to book a flight and you can always change it before you actually purchase the ticket. I recommend that you get your boss to call immi and explain your situation to them and see what they have to say. You'll also need a re-entry permit(30,000-50,000won).

Thanks for info. Great stuff.
I'm not with epic. I work at a private hagwon.

I was hired from abroad last year and I signed the contract and posted it to a recruite. So I don't know who actually signed the contract (or witnessed it) in Korea.
Does anyone know if I need a witness? My legal studies suggest I do but I don't know if getting a 'witness' would count for anything here.

When I re-newed earlier this year I needed

1. passport
2. arc card
3. passport photos
4. contract
5. Something witnessed from the lawyers. Its the same thing the school gave to immigration to get your initial e-2.
6. Copy of the schools business license.
At the end of it theyll write something on the back of your ARC card and then youre done.

My advice is to get your boss to phone immigration and double check what it is that is needed at your office..

I'm pretty sure that a witness is not required for the actual contract.

I forgot to mention that you also have to submit an application form with the other stuff...the "Change/Extension to Visa Sojourn" form. As CLG mentioned, they'll add the new year to the back of your ARC, in the bottom left corner most likely. The pics might be okay to have just in case, but I don't think you'll need them as you won't actually be getting a new card.

You can find the necessary form here:

http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html

On the left, click on "Download forms" and go to page three and select "Application form for Granting Status of Sojourn..." You can also find the single/multiple re-entry forms there, if needed.
