Does anyone know any of the best recruiters.... you know, the ones who only work with good schools who pay you on time and stick strictly to their contract??? |

www.superdooperrecruiter.com should be the one you need...
Also www.yournaiveandidontcareaboutyou.com is another beauty sure to make your day
Seriuosly though, the recruiter is only as good or bad as the hagwons, schools and universities he reperesents... generally recruiters make no difference at all, they just match bodies to workplaces |

I dealt with ETEC, out of Busan. Super small, I don't think you can even find info on it, but if you go to site like iabroad.com they have postings up for jobs. They're really nice though, and I'm still in touch with them.
Like everyone says, you just need to do your homework as best you can about the recruiter and the school. Ask them for email addresses of other people they have helped get jobs, how long their agency has been running, etc.
Its not like any agency has spent copious amounts of time at any school unless they work there personally, so most of it is up to you.
I know that isn't a lot of help, but good luck! |

I liked Anne at UEC. She's friendly, helpful and takes care of business.

I used Footprints Recruiting in Vancouver.
They've been excellent. See their website at footprints.com |

Using a recruiter is a complete crap shoot. Some are more reputable than others but as just because said "... generally recruiters make no difference at all, they just match bodies to workplaces."
I was turned down by Footprints because of my age (49) and the fact I had no foreign experience (I've been to 34 countries). Footprints did me a favour... I lucked into a great job in the public school system with less hours, no weekends, no split shifts, more holidays, great benefits and a fantastic, two-bedroom apartment (with a new computer) through a different recruiter... pure sh*t-house luck! Sorry to brag folks, but my point is - had Footprints 'accepted' me, I'd most likely be working in a private hagwon where I may, or may not be happy.
I was hired because of my picture (in a tux), not because of my qualifications... in Korea, if something looks good it IS good!
If at all possible, I'd suggest coming to Korea on a tourist visa and searching for a job - don't worry you will be hired - so that YOU can 'pick and choose'. If financial considerations preclude that, do not be rushed into signing a contract by any recruiter. Insist on speaking with other foreign teachers who have/are working at the school; and post your contract here on 'Dave's' so any potential 'pitfalls' can be pointed out to you.
Good luck! |

I said they were excellent. This is my opinion. Your recruiter may be excellent too. Footprints does not only place in hogwons. Many Footprints teachers work in public school systems...
anyhow... to each his own. I still stand behind my positive post about FR |

While I have something against Footprints (they turned me down), I have no reason to believe they are not among the best of recruiters (they turned me down).
The fact of the matter is: with any recruiter you are a commodity. Remember, they don't work for you - they are paid by the school. If, the week you apply, they have an 'order' for a body that can speak English and you fit the profile of what a client wants, you will be hired. |
