I know absolutely nothing about web design, but my husband has a site, and I'm going to be featuring some products on his site soon. Anyway, he has a photo and a slogan for my stuff, and it would be cool to just click on the photo to bring you to the page which has my stuff on it. He doesn't know how to do that, though, so we're stuck with people having to scan the list of products in the table of contents (don't know what else to call it! I really know nothing about computers... ), and then clicking on Periwinkle's stuff, which is annoying. Anybody know how to program it so you can just click on the photo so you can get to another page? It's a Korean program he's using, btw. I don't know it's name... Your help will be much appreciated!! ^^ |

you're probably going to have to learn a little something about html first to make it work right.
html isn't hard, try to think of it in terms of an editors markup language rather than a computer language. It mirrors the way newspaper editors highlight their 'copy text' before they send it to the printers. |

Periwinkle, I saw your post elsewhere and it might be a good idea for you to get your husband to install eCommerce on his site. This is assuming that he isn't running just a simple cyworld page. If he is, look into hosting, purchase a domain name, and install the php script on the site. It's really not too difficult and you won't regret it.
If you don't like eCommerce or php code (there are some problems with it), you could also look into vBulletin or ComDev which also make professional scripts for commerce sites. Especially since you are going to be selling stuff, it is a good idea to make your site presentable, professional, and easy to find (not just an off-shoot link of your husband's site).
If you need to know more about commerce sites as it relates to Korea, try contacting chiaa by PM. I don't think he is on this site anymore though. |

Thanks for the advice! We'll see how it goes for awhile on his site. He told me that to register with a search engine like Naver, it's 400,000 won/month!! If I start to make a decent profit, then we'll consider starting a new website just for my stuff. Right now it's just a hobby. =) |

jazblanc77,
Are you referring to OSCommerce? If so I totally recommend it too. It's free to use and is included in alot of Hosting packages as an auto install.
To the OP,
I wouldn't recommend paying money to register with a search engine. In general the most effective way to generate traffic is by the text on the actual pages of your site. Most modern search engines rely on page content to rank your pages. As far as starting an online store you may be able to install OSCommerce on your husbands site as jazblanc recommended. You can find the free source code here:
http://www.oscommerce.com
Check it out...it's a free way to develop a full featured ecommerce solution with relative ease.
You could also look into a hosting plan that includes the ability to auto install OSCommerce:
I recommend this host: it's only $7 a month and very full featured
Anyways, good luck with your site. Be sure to post an url here when you're finished so we can check it out

Ooops! Yes, I meant OScommerce... I don't know why I wasn't able to write the correct name. Anyways, 400,000 won/month is highway robbery and you could very VERY easily pay for a domain name, get hosting, and get your site listed on search engines, as ejmlab mentionned, for a fraction of that cost. In fact, I wouldn't be lying if I told you that 400,000 won would be enough for the total cost for 3-4 years of a self-made site using OScommerce on your own site.
Even for your first month of operation, it's well worth your time to look into this method. At least, during your startup time, you won't have to make up as many costs to get into the profit. The difference between $7 and 400,000 won is HUGE. |
