|
|
Caught this article earlier. Japan aims to fingerprint and photograph all foreigners entering the country as a measure to reduce the risk of terrorism.
It's already creating a lot of talk and anger amongst expats in Japan and is not likely to go down well once it's introduced.
I remember last time I flew into Japan summer last night, the terminal was stinking hot and the foreigner line for passport checking was over an hour long with hundreds of people lined up and only 5 people manning the foreigner booths. Meanwhile, there were 15 odd booths for Japanese citizens and only a trickle of Japanese citizens were flying in as opposed to foreigners. Not the nicest impression to get when entering a country.
Wonder if any countries will do like what Brazil did when the US started fingerprinting foreigners, fingerprinting only Americans entering Brazil.
Hopefully Korea doesn't catch wind for this wind and think it's a good idea. |

FINGERPRINTS, PHOTOS ...
Any bets on how soon DNA samples will be demanded?

I flew into Japan shortly after 9/11. There were two lines for foreigners, and a separate line for "those of middle-eastern background."
I felt very safe in that airport. All of those in that line look bug-eyed with surprise and fear. I felt a little sorry for them. |

Its probably going to be a matter of putting your palm on a scanner.
Shouldn't take much time. |

It makes perfect sense, considering the only case of terrorism in Japan that I'm aware of was by a Japanese citizen. |

It's their country...can't blame them for taking steps to deal with a real problem.
BUT, for the record, wasn't the last terrorist attack in Japan carried out by Japanese doomsday cultists? |
