Hey all,
Heres my situation. Bought a fancy ass camera from one of the vendors at Youngsan, after 6 weeks something went wrong, brought it in, he sent it in to get checked, comes back a faulty sensor that ocassional happens in that model. Says it will cost me 190 000 won. Which is 1/3 of the original cost of the camera.
Now when negotiating, I asked right up front.... and said in Korean, "if I have a problem, what do?"... he emphatically says, "no problem, my shop, 1 year apter serbice" in perfect Konglish.
Now he is renegging on the deal, says that isnt included in his Warantee. Or any Warantee issued by the company.... which everyone Knows that if it is a known fault, that is exactly what it does. So on mutliple occasions he is lying.
So what should I do,
Suck it up and take it? Be nice and cuddly with him? Big and aggressive?
What shoudl I do, take it to the Nikon service center in Seoul? send it back to Japan......Im f*uK*in Choked........ Im sick and tired of ppl tryin to scam, skim, and scum me from head to toe.........
Tempted to wait for him to close up shop and discuss it in the back alley....... any ideas? |

Bring a Korean friend along and make a big scene...AND contact the dealer in your own language and file a complaint against his dealership... |

Did he say "free after service" or just "after service"? |

Well, when I used the word warantee, he said ok, then went on his speil about after service. So, free no, but the likeness to warantee yes.
Billy, thanks dude, never thought to look on another nikon site, besides the nikon asia I was looking at
Mine wasnt that camera but.... right under it I found
http://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nikoneurope_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=15765&p_created=1127386951&p_sid=GWrS53Th&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD01MjYmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1
thats my camera, and my exact problem
"Nikon will replace the associated components free of charge even if the cameras warranty has already expired"
So I guess I can go straight to the dealership here. If the guy wasnt an idiot, he would have told me that himself.... he knew there was a fault in the camera. |

Yongsan is infamous for ripping off foreigners. A lot of the dealers get their merchandise through less than legitimate means. Many of them actually fly to Japan, buy electronics for cheap, and return to Korea to resell them. In a lot of cases you can basically forget about warrantees. |

I always wonder how much of the Yongsan guys attitude is directed at foreigners, and how much is just because they're total pricks. |

Let's be fair here--it's easy to rip off foreigners. We don't know how to ask all the important questions, and really--what can we do? Probably something, but I don't know. |

When my Korean female companion was referred to as a "yangkongju" by camera vendors there for walking by next to me, I'd say it's both.
Is it common for electronics vendors in Old Blighty to call out, say, "n*****lover" to potential female customers walking by? |
