Hi all,
I saw my first Bosintang restaurant last night in Gangnam. I got all excited of course because dog-eating is considerably less in-your-face in Seoul than I expected to be the case, it's an (in)famous national custom, and seeing my first Bosintang sign was rather a surprise. I wanted to go in but folks I was with didn't wanna, given that we were already late because of Seoul's dreadful traffic last night.
Anyway, does anyone happen to know of Bosintang places a bit closer to home in northwestern Seoul (I'm in Eunpyeong-Gu)...Yeonshinnae, Sinsa and Bulgwang seemingly the likeliest candidates given they're pretty cool places with loadsa stuff? What about elsewhere - Hongdae, Insadong for instance?
Broader questions: where did you eat Bosintang? How much was it? was it any good? Where's the reputedly best Bosintang eaterie in the entire world? |

there's one in Hongdae- get out of the subway station at the exit next to Outback Steakhouse then walk towards Sinchon (i.e. away from where most people are headed). It's just before the train tracks.
Other than that, just keep your eyes open there are still quite a few around |

In Eunpyeong-Gu, if you come out of Bulgwang Stn, Exit 7, heading north past the bus terminal, you'll find a restaurant called ︷ . Should be directly across the street from Life Shopping. |

Thanks for those answers, guys, but I have a question for Chronicpride:
The road which exit 7 is on - heading north to Dokbawi and south to Yeokchon and Sinsa-dong - is the part of Bulgwang I'm most familiar with. However, I haven't a bloody clue where this bus terminal thingie is. Is the restaurant on the road that leads to Dokbawi subway station?
cheers. |

| yeah is all over the place. i think ö is a euphemism for , but i could be wrong. go to www.freemap.com and in the ȣ box, type in . you may have to do it twice, because the program is a little buggy. but anyways, that should give you about 50 different places throughout seoul. |

i heard that ( means nutrition) is a new name for . i asked some koreans about this and they said the name was changed because foreigners know is dog-meat soup and they criticized korea for the number of dogsoup restaurants. (it's sorta like how prunes recently became dried plums in the US---to get away from a bad reputation).
anyways, there's tons of restaurants around seoul, and a pretty big one near hyundai dept. store in sinchon.
please let me know if i was misinformed about this, but im pretty sure it's right. |

I've been doing stuff at school this week about K-food and I've heard so many 'tangs' it's difficult to keep up. I had a beef 'tang' at Lotte World and I've even forgotten what that was called!

Great stuff. Does "sang hoh" mean 'search' then? |

Ladies and gents,
I went to a Bosintang place tonight in Bulgwang. Not sure if it's the one that Chronicpride suggested but it was close to exit 7 and was in a back-street at the back of CVG. I found it totally by accident, as I had given up looking at the time and simply sought a short cut to the main road.
It was quite delicious. It smelt and tasted like...dog! The odor from the boiling, bubbling bowl was totally distinctive, totally canine. There was rather too much fat for my liking but otherwise it were champion. The closest meat to it IMO is lamb. It'd taste cool with mint sauce. I got the biggest cheer from the Koreans in there when I said "soju hana ju se yo" oddly enough.
I'm willing to try my hand at virtually anything that will pi55 people off. Is there anywhere I can eat dolphin or monkey?[/quote] |

Billybrobby,
I don't get it. The freemap.com website has the heading "The Map Store of Minnesota: Your Best Resource for Laminated and Framed Wall Maps".
Unless it's me being rather silly, it seems an unlikely source for info on Bosintang restaurants in Seoul. |
haha. true.

There are Bosintang restaurants all over that area. There is one right at the top of exit 1 at the Eungam stop, walk a block straight, take a left down an alley and it's right there. |

If memory serves, only exits 3 and 4 are in use. Could be wrong, mind you. Regardless, thanks. That'll come in handy when I organize a Bosintang and Soju evening - accompanied by other deliciously dark pleasures that delight the soul. |
