So is it just me or is being hungover in Korea the closest thing to hell that anyone has ever experienced?
I have only been here two months and I have spent a total of 4 Sat/Sun mornings hung over the toliet bowl with my my ever-expanding brain trying to pound it's way out of my head. What's the deal?
I know the usual "drink lots of water" "don't mix drinks" "don't drink so bloody much"...but honestly...is Korean boose laced with rat poison?
Any advice on how to firstly avoid or (if my experience serves me right, they are unavoidable) at least get through the pain? |

DAWN 808
Its that can in the convenience store that costs 5000 won and has that old Korean dude's picture on it. In the section with all the energy drinks.. I don't know whats in it or why it costs so much, or why it tastes so bad, but it works!
(Any info that ppl could supply on the dealy with Dawn 808 would be much appreciated) |

It didn't work for me the first time I ate dog with co-workers and drank a considerable amount of booze to fortify myself (it didn't help that the owner of the boshintang establishment kept plying me with a variety of free drinks for the sole reason that he was gassed to see a waygook eating dog like it was going out of style). Maybe that's because I drank it the next day? Are you supposed to drink it before a drinking binge? If not, a better (and cheaper) remedy would be hair of the dog.

| Get "Condition" (?) Looks like a bottle of Red Bull concentrate. Drink it before you crash, and another the next day if you're really bollocksed. I never felt a bad hangover here, and neither will you if you just stay AWAY from the makoli. |

dude you are still a noob! it takes time to get use this stuff..
stay away from the beer.. thats whats doing you in!!!
water, redbulls, condition BACCUS, grandprix , yeah they might help alittle but the best thing is.. drink heaps of water before bed and take 3 asprin or the extra tyronyol and sleep 8 hours if you suffer so bad from hangovers.. I dont suffer from hangovers as long as I sleep 6 hours..
if I sleep only 4 and I hit it hard.. I feel alittle groggy, then im going for the baccuss but really its nothing but time for me I needed the sleep, so I feel drained. but nothing a few more drinks wont fix later on in the night.
but yeah the beer I found was doing me in... |

Don't drink as much.
Running is the best thing, 20 minutes later hangover gone. Eat some good Korean soup after, do a mental puzzle or something for the egg, and your are back to normal. |

| I'm not sure that physical exercise the morning after a lot of drinking is a particularly good idea. Your body will be dealing with enough problems as it is- pumping it into overdrive just might make you a lot worse off! |

STAY AWAY FROM THE SOJU!!!
I consider myself a pretty heavy drinker, or a borderline binger, who has no problem downing vast quantities and varieties of "western" booze with no problems the following day, but as soon as I touch that soju it's hangover city for the next 1 to 3 days. I heard a rumor that soju is actually diluted ethanol, so beware!
If beer is giving you a hangover, try the bean sprout hangover soup either before or after you drink. It's called Hey-Jang-Gook.
If you still get hangovers, guzzle the water before you pass out. A hangover is essentially dehydration, and it takes on average 6 hours to rehydrate, so all those "miracle hangover remedies" are just hype. |

I usually have a powerade or any ion replacement sports drink and a bottle of water.
Alternativly, drink water while you are drinking every two drinks down a glass or bottle of water.
Stay away from Soju!
Eat when you have finished drinking.

| stay away from dongdongju/makeolli... tastes really good, but you won't want to live the next day! also i second the 808 dawn suggestion.. you can get it from any convenience store and it costs about 5000 won. koreans call it 808 (yeomyeong pal-gong-pal) so ask for that.. i don't know why but it really makes a difference! |

this may seem obvious but....
eat a big meal...something greasy or with a lot of meat...
i noticed that when i have kalbi or samgyeopsal before going out...i can drink twice the amount that i usually do (twice meaning...six drinks!)...and i feel much better the next day. no hangover at all. |
