|
|
I told my boss I was quiting May14, he wants me to stop working May27.
I have already finished 8 months of my contract, and I dont want to leave Korea.
I just want to quit my current Job and find another employer.
What do I need to do?
I know, I need a release letter. But what do I do once I have the release letter?
What does my boss have to do, so that I may find another job?
What procedures do I have to do?
Any information will be helpful. |

You will have to leave Korea,at least for a short time. That job permit you got for your present job(it is probably an E-2) is job specific. So you have to apply for another permit for the new job. This entails at least what is popularly termed a "visa run"...many people go to Osaka,Japan. Some go to Thailand.Anyway, you have to leave Korea,if you want to teach legally at another school.First, though, you should have another job lined up.When you have another job lined up(try to get a better one this time...you do not want to be leaving again sonn,I guess)...be sure to show your new employer the letter of release from your old employer. Before you do anything, you should try to get that new job lined up.But if you leave your present job ,but want to work at another, you will have to leave Korea, jsut for that paperwork. It probably does not take much time.Althoguh I have never done one personally. |

as far as i understand, if you get a release letter this allows your e-2 visa to remain valid, it is just modified to show that you are now working elsewhere (i think it gets stamped by immigration to show the modifications).
i'm not sure where to get the release letter (probably at the immigration office) but i do know that it must be written in korean and all your boss has to do is sign it. i think there is a sample release letter in english posted on this board, if i find it i'll let you know.
hope this helps |

This explains why you are wrong.
With a letter of release, a person does not have to leave the country to begin working with someone else. Though there is a time limit from when the release is granted and when someone else must take over the sponsorship of the work visa (14 days I believe). |
