You all the situation: there's a minor thing on your computer, that doesn't nesaritly need to be fixed but drives you nuts anyway. In my case that was disk defragmenter not working. After some deliberation I decided a fresh install (and upgrade to pro) of winxp was not a bad idea. Well, something happened. After attempting to install, the program looked for files all the I: drive- which is a part of my partitioned 2nd hard drive- not a cd rom (in my case the G . That caused an error and it stopped. I attempted again to see the same error. I tried a few various things, none of which worked (selecting copy files before install, selecting default, etc). Now however, my refresh rate is god awful. When on ie or firefox it looks like I'm back in 1996 when the computer had to redraw the screen to scroll. Gah!
So, now I'm stuck. I want to reinstall windows cleanly, I want my scroll to work, I want my computer to be fresh and sparkely etc. If anyone can help me with this, it'd be much obliged. I'm intermediate with this kind of thing, so tech advice is cool. I'm also willing to pay for someone to roll out here and fix this thing for me. |

There comes a time when you might just want to either:
A. Reformat and start fresh
B. Attempt another reinstall of windows while saving the old files
C. Buy a new hard drive and an external box for your old hard drive, and install windows on the new one. That's what I did, because I wanted more space, anyway. Then you can delete all of the windows crap you don't need off of the old drive, and still have all of the other stuff. |

Windows installs a generic graphics driver that will work with any graphics card. You need to install the drivers from the company to get full speed. Generally, you'll have either an nVideo or ATI card, and installing drivers means downloading a single program and then running it. Not complicated to do.

yeah, I went to Nvidia and got the newest driver set (out 10/20/05), but still no dice. Bear in mind that display properties are still top nothch, its just scrolling is not working.
I'm willing to offer 50 for someone to come fix this thing. Bearing in mind that it will require a windows (or linux) disc as I am pretty sure that this install is FUBAR. |

other partitions?
The set up: I have 6 partitiosn even spaced over 2 discs. Drive C: is what holds windows on disc 1. I have not removed any partitions as I was not aware that I had to. I assumed that the installation prog would format the C: and install from there. |

| I just figured you would remove the partitions because you said the installation program was reading off the wrong drive during part of the process. |
