So, I was on the TTC (subway) last night after a night out with my adult Korean students and a female caucasian friend of mine. The subway was pretty empty. I was with the Canadian girl and one Korean guy. Anyway, this 50+ white guy gets on the train and practically sits on our Korean friend. We assumed he was just drunk because there was plenty of space for him to sit further away. Eventually however, he shifted over a bit. Myself, the Canadian girl, and the Korean were comfortably chatting. The Korean guy is here studying English and is quite good at speaking English.

So, the Korean guy gets up to leave. I say "see you on Monday", my friend says "see you on Saturday" and then the drunk guy says "see you on Tuesday". We just thought he was playing along, being drunk and all.

Well, once my Korean friend is gone, this drunk white guy starts. He says "He (Korean guy) understood everything you were saying!" I said "Yes...." Drunk guy:"they pretend they don't speak English, but they do". "He had no trouble talking to you". At this point in time I'm confused because at first I thought he was complimenting my Korean friend's English.

Anyway, this pointless conversation continued as a fiery rage is starting to burn in my chest with the danger of a number of expletives about to come from my mouth. Luckily, my female friend put her hand on my leg because she could see where this was going. So, I just stared at the guy until he back off, mumbling that I didn't have to agree with him...

I just thought I'd post this, because when I was in Korea (for two years) I had a number of Korean guys like this racist white guy talk to me or about me. During that period it was easy to glorify Canada in saying that "this wouldn't have happened in Canada". Well, it does. I can't really comment on the frequency of these situations in Canada, but I do know they happen. So, just remember this then next time a drunken ajosshi starts mouthing at you.

I think the OP can tell us the moral of the story.........how far up the leg was her hand? Or are we still holier than thou....?

{meaning, this happens everywhere, you've done it too. Don't throw so many stones and enjoy the hands on your leg....}

I appreciated the story.

Objectively, we all know it happens everywhere. Here at Dave's the Korean version gets high-lighted (of course). It's 'nice' to have a first-person account from the outside world when the anti-Korean forces here get their wind up.

In Buttfarq, New Brunswick, Canada, the French kids used to beat us up...and we used to beat them too...throwing rocks...chasings with sticks and battles with home made slingshots made from two by fours, clothes pins and rubberbands were what summers were made of...in anycase it was some fun in the sun and I got to learn alot of bad French words...ah to be back in the 1980s would be bliss...that's right Andre, Gino, and Monique .... this is our park! You better run you @#$%^#^&!''
