Hi,

I run the Hagwon Checklist and just wanted to share an overview of the results so far from the teachers that have reviewed their schools. These numbers are based on answers to the question:
"Please rate your overall experience at this school"

Great: 18 %

Good: 13%

Fair: 4%

Poor: 36%

Unacceptable: 29%

Could it not be slightly skewed due to the angry people who had bad experiences reporting far more often than those with good schools?

My social statistics professor in college ranted about this ad nauseum. He told the same story at least four times during the semester about how car forums are the worst places on the Internet to find real purchasing advice for cars because usually dissatisfaction is a stronger motivator for action than satisfaction. Thus, you're bound to find copious complaints, which skews the perception of overall satisfaction.

I assume he's correct, and that his principle would apply in this scenario, as well.

Check out the stats!!

The site should still be useful for determining whether a particular school has had complaints, though

It might be true that people with complaints speak up more, but with this website, I also hope to also expose a lot of the good and great experiences.

There has already been examples of different people having an opposite opinion of a school and these differences are what i think are the key. 3 differnent teachers saying a school is great is much more convincing than 1 good 1 poor and 1 great. Hopefully this site will allow schools that foster "great" experiences to be rewarded with the best teachers and little to no recruiting fees. On the other hand, it might work the other way with not so great schools.

So if you've had any hagwon experiences, please share them.

cheers!
