Here is the standard advice for writing a cover letter:

Now obviously this is guy is not running some button-down enterprise like IBM or Johnson&Johnson, so he's looking for a cover with a little more je ne sais quos. But at least rather than telling you what's good, which the first article does, he actually shows you what's good.
