Ok, sometimes I am charged 1000 won and sometimes 1200 per hour; what is going on here? Am I getting the shaft?
I have been here just a week so go easy on me. |

Some places just charge more. It's generally cheapest in Seoul; outside of Seoul I usually paid 1,500/hour. Last year in my little city I was used to paying 1,500 but then suddenly in the spring every place dropped to 1,000. A few places let you pay in increments of 15 minutes or so, but most places charge you for the full hour whether you use it or not. So 15 minutes costs the same as 55; 65 costs the same as 119. Either way there will be a little window that will tell you how long you've been there and what the bill is (well, not always that).
A few places will also bring you free coffee if you've been there awhile. And wouldn't you know it, they always bring it right when I'm about to leave. |

Sorry, I didn't explain myself clearly. I am charged different prices at the same location, from day to day. Is this normal?
Oh, and the coffee is a nice touch |

I have gone to PC Rooms in over a dozen cities in Korea and the ONLY place I was charged more than 1000 won was in Seoul.
(Perhaps the rich suburbs and satellite communities right around Seoul are more expensive. That I dunno. But the cities in other provinces have been cheaper than Seoul in my many travels, and not only PC rooms, coke, bibimbap, taxis, etc)
I've never noticed price changes based on time of day. But in busier areas it makes sense. It certainly used to happen in cyber cafes back in Toronto the year I lived there. |

Some places do charge different prices based on time of day. That might be the problem.
Either way... you're talking about an extra 1,000 won every five hours. I wouldn't worry about it. |

I don't know what PC room you're going to, but pretty much every single one I've been in charges by every 6 minutes (or some other small increment) after the first hour. The number of times I've had the fee tick up 100 won while I'm walking to the counter is no small amount. |

I recently found one for 500 won / hour!
Whoo-hooh! Mind you, the chairs all suck, and there's this God awful stench that wafts from the crapper regularly forcing me to "mask up". Even with a sign clearly posted on the door most of these damn "rock heads" apparently can't read Korean |

I've travelled not much, but a little, and korea is the only place i've never been ripped off. It's taken a while to get used to, and i'm still not used to it, but whenever i've felt like i'm paying more cos i'm a foreigner, i've later found out that everyone else has paid that price too.
ps i've not been anywhere cheaper than W1000 ph |

| All the PC bangs in Anyang seem to be standardized at 1200 won per hour. 1200 won is the minimum. After 1 hour they add a hundred or two at a time every few minutes. |
