* Not sure what board to put this on, so Mods you can change it if necessary.
In the attampt to make my classroom more interesting i've decided to incorporate public speaking into some of my lessons. It's not in the ciruculum, however I sometimes find I have 5-10 minutes left in class and I would like to be a little creative.
I've already done spelling tests, georgraphy quiz's and rumedial french for fun, but for some reason i'm in a brain freeze in regards to possible topics for speaking.
So far i've thought about:
-Introducing themselves
-Talking about their dreams for the future
-Their favorite things about Korea
- What they want for Christmas
- Who better? Boys or Girls? Why?
With that said, I was wondering if anyone would like to share any other possible topics?
Thanks in advance. |

Please tell me you've done food. Every English teacher is required to talk food to death. Every time I eat pizza my phone students hear a new rant about what they put on the pizza. Interestingly, it never occurred to Koreans to mix anchovies and pizza.
Words that are the same in English and Korean are sometimes helpful. You could have a relatively involved conversation with low-level students about allergies, for instance.
Another great one I use is about monsters--Loch Ness Monster, bigfoot, yeti. Kids love that. UFOs too, though you should be careful about ghosts.
Always discuss holidays. It's too late for Halloween and Thanksgiving, and Christmas is kind of awkward to bring up. Make them explain Korean holidays for you.
Try to explain flossing. That'll take a week. |

8-11 year olds that can talk? WTF?
Most of my uni students couldn't have a discussion with you about that stuff.
How about....
Most popular ʵ game.
What cartoon do ʵs like? ( I love tacking an s on a Korean word)
Then do an "I wish" discussion.
That last one can be turned into a week long event.
Ask the Kids if they've seen "The Incredibles". If not tell them to go watch it...."It's homework...tell your mom and dad" One of them may actually do it.
Then make a bunch of super powers.
When dealing with 'mature' university students I got
super fart power
super burp
smelly feet power
other shit like that.....so with elementary kids...who the hell knows what's going to happen.
Then make them wish for powers.
Put a bunch of super hero names on the board....
I used
The Hulk
Superman
Spiderman
blah bla
Then get them to do superlatives and what not.
easy as that.
Make sure to call your kids ʵ!
That's the important part (it's not swearing) |
