...and no, I'm not looking to have it done. Been there, done that and thankfully at an age too young to remember. But I noticed someone writing about this in the "UNBELIEVABLE" thread and - as all things pertaining to knives and 'down there' - it piqued my interest.

My question, though, is why in Korea do parents wait so darn long to have their sons' equipment carved up? If you're going to force the kid to do it, at least have the compassion to do it when he's young and won't remember it (except as subconscious aggression toward his parents).

Then again, all of this begs the question: is it really necessary at any age?

And here I thought America was the only country in the 21st century slicing the tips off their little boys' firemen. What's the rationale behind the Koreans' choice to do so? Do they really think it prevents disease? It surely doesn't prevent the urge to satisfy oneself when nobody's looking. Or is it simply a religious matter? Being born in a Catholic hospital in southern California I'm quite familiar with the subject myself. And I thank my lucky stars that there wasn't an earthquake during the operation. But if I had the choice of whether or not to have it done today, I'd definitely decline the invitation.

They do it out of the mistaken belief that it is more hygenic and they wait up to puberty so it will "grow longer" -

NOTE: I dont believe any of that BS but its what all my male coworkers tell me.

Fact:

Males who are circumcised are more resistant to the HIV virus.

It has to grow to a certain size before it can be trimmed safely.

Why do they do it? I submit 2 pages that attempt to answer this-

The strange case of
Circumcision in South Korea

Quote:
Circumcision in South Korea is interesting for several reasons:

It is of recent origin - less than 50 years - making it almost rootless
It is performed (for "medical" and sexual reasons) in late childhood
It is very much taken for granted, and assumed to be universal
Religious circumcision is almost unknown.

Circumcision, South Korean Style: A bizarre story of a modern day tribal circumcision

Quote:
South Korean male circumcision rate was less than 0.1% in the year 1950. In 2000, 95% of high school boys are circumcised. They were circumcised at around 12 years of age (with local anesthesia). The rest 5% are wondering when (not whether) they should be circumcised. What has transpired? This is the story we would like to share with you. We have interviewed over 5000 males of all ages, and we could get the story right.

Read the rest here

Why in the heck do I know this? A good Korean female friend of mine did not want this to be done to her son (a sweet and gentle kid if there ever was one) and she asked me to help research this so she could put up an effective arguement against it. In the end the kid (Charlie) did not have it done, so I suppose my 2 cents helped.

That's what I had heard as well...like I said before, the boy's father (a doctor) said it would grow bigger.

The circumcision itself was a little disturbing...what I don't get is going with your friend so you can get it done together...very twisted palydate if you ask me.... Shocked

Circumcision is actually an ancient Hebrew rite.

Accordingly, male children ( gentiles as well ??? ) were historically to have this enacted upon them in accordance with GOD's covenant.

The cleanliness argument as well is more than likely a merely plausible fallacy, as is the "hey, it'll make it a more impressive stature" explanation. Bottom line issues here center more on, starting as mere ( gentile ) infants, stripping males of our autonomy, as well as reinforcing blind submission to authority, power & control.

Question: Is there not perhaps something of a correlation here between the bandwagon surge of CHURCHES following the war & the adoption of this ancient Old Testament (Hebrew) rite ???

Fact:

Men that don't have sex with HIV positive people are likely to not get HIV, and they also keep a little piece of Willy.

I doubt that would make a difference. If that was true, it would imply that Canadians are better hung than Americans. Laughing
Besides, it's only skin, and we all know that skin stretches (I mean, come on...shouldn't he know better since he has one of his own).

It's an unecessary procedure. If there wasn't a need for human males to have a foreskin, we wouldn't be born with one. Traits that aren't beneficial to survival eventually disappear. That's the beauty of evolution.

My father got circumcised at the age of 43, so he can skip military training duties. I am SERIOUS!. FIY, korean men have to attend a military training twice a year or something even after completing military service.

My brother got circumcised at the age of 14. Circumcision was really introduced/encouraged in the 80's in Korea, and my brother was one of the victims. Laughing

I hear ya.. Laughing ..wasn't implying that the father's theory was correct...rather stating their reasons to punctuate the ridiculous. Very Happy

Your dad is a very funny guy. Kind of ironic when you think there are about 1200 Korean Jehovah witnesses imprisonned at the moment because they are conscientious objectors.
