Hi everyone!
I'm here asking for help regarding getting married in Busan. My fiancee lives in Busan presently and I live in Changwon and we're planning on getting married next March. The problem is that my visa expires at the end of January. So here's my question: Has anyone gotten married in Busan and done all the crap that you have to do at Canadian consulate there in Busan or did you guys have to go up to Seoul? The website is so general and vague that I can't really tell what services are available at the consulate and what services are only available in Seoul.
Thanks for the help!

P.S. - How long did it take for all the forms to be processed and for you to then be able to apply for your F2? And approximately how long did the F2 take to process? Sorry for all the questions but I really am in unfamiliar territory here and would appreciate any first hand accounts by people who have gotten married in Busan. Thanks! |

Yes, I got married here and did all the crap at the Canadian consulate, at least when it was located near Nahm-poh Dong. They're way out in the boonies now and I've not been to the new location yet. I also had a new passport processed there - at least the paperwork was done there - the actual issuing office on the passport says Suh-ool and I know the lady said that the docs had to be sent there. I can't recall exactly how long it took the processing. I think not much more than a week, but I remember it taking about two weeks of running around getting this and that certified and stamped and having to deal with a bit of confusion. All in all, I think they did things pretty well. I also don't know exactly how long until you can apply for an F-2 afterwards as I didn't get mine processed until about three years after - but, I don't think there's any reason why you can't go into immi and apply for the F-2 the day after(or same day) that you receive your marriage docs. Boo-sahn immi gives you a receipt that says ten days for most kinds of visa issuances. Get your fiance to call both offices to verify what docs are needed. Trust me, it's easier having a Korean ask and get the right names for the forms and the easiest places to find them. Really not too hard or frustrating though. Best of luck.
p.s. I'm not sure what your future work situation is going to be, but I assume you'll have to get a new E-2 visa for your workplace(current or new) and then change it over to an F-2 after you get all the necessary paperwork done after your marriage. |

You can register the marriage with your embassy and your nearest Gu office anytime you want. So, just do that and then process your F2 visa. It's that simple. |

My work situation is that I won't have a job when we're applying for all this stuff so I shouldn't have to worry about getting an E2 for a new job and then getting the F2. I should just be able to get an F2 and given the new changes, an E2 should be unnecessary. Thanks for all the info though! I had heard it could be done pretty fast and pretty easily but I wanted to confirm with people who had actually married in Busan and gone through the process there. Thanks for all your help! |

If your visa expires you can go to Japan for a day and return as a tourist and complete your marriage paperwork your wife can record it in her family book. Not a big problem. My wife recorded our marriage when I was in Korea temporarily on a tourist visa. |
