There was a KBS news report on Wednesday night at 7:30 which talked about the public school jobs. They had some video of teachers and administrators talking about the funding for special foreign language programs. My coworkers saw it and were talking about it. One said that the national goverment is pushing for the program, but the local governments are trying to shoot it down because they do not want to spend the money. Actually, my coworkers said that Korean students, parents, and teachers, are wondering if the support by provinces will be continued or not, because the local provinces are not interested in allocating money for the foreign education program. They are trying to resist the strongarming by the national government. So are we going to wake up and not get contracts renewed in the next year?

I haven't heard this yet, and my VP wants me to renew my contract despite the fact that it ends in March. Further, the government has pledged to drastically increase the number of foreign teachers in public schools over the next few years. I am not sure how much power the local education authorities have in Korea. Are they autonomous? Which provinces are resisting the government's moves?

Which english program?

There are so many programmes in Korea. There's GEPIK, EPIK, SMOE, a lot of local places (like mine) run programmes just for that city. Then there are the proposed zones where everything will be taught in English in Jeju, Incheon and Busan (I think).

My public school told me today that they just found out they'll get funding again next year. Then they laughed and said "you're not gonna get any of it Twisted Evil "

Half of that is true.
