Depends what discipline and which industry: this website covers all disciplines for the oil and gas industry and is searchable by location. A good starting point.
http://www.oilandgasjobsearch.com/default.aspx
It can be hard to get the first job in oil, but once there the pay for remote locations - Sakhalin for example - is around 750 USD a day, working 6 days a week for 6 weeks then two weeks' leave (unpaid) with paid return flight home. That's around 210,000 USD a year - tax-free if you are not US citizen or Green Card holder. |

The Prince is right, what type of engineering are you interested in?
Also, do you have a Bachelor, Master, or PHD?
One good way to get your foot in the door in Asia is networking. You know people who know others who are active enough to pass a word to their boss. |

The American tax waiver for money earned overseas is only for those who make under $80,000.
Make above 80k, and the whole paycheck is taxed. |
Are you sure about that Jack? I have seen tax returns for guys over 80,000 USD overseas (a GS 14) and the tax was only calculated on the balance over 80,000.
If so, that is yet another reason for not getting a Green Card. |

I'm an Industrial Manufacturing Engineer, equiv of a recent grad. I have one years worth of co-op placement and one 4 month internship before coming to Korea to teach english for a while. My main experience is in production, lean, 5S and TPS application. Also ergonomics, facilities layout and supply management.
I'd prefer not to go home to canada for a few years to get experience then come back to asia but I understand that may be unavoidable. Best case I'd like to look for work in Taiwan, Shanghai, Bangkok or Hong Kong.
Again, any help will be great. |
