Can anyone who's been here a while, or is really knowledgeable, or both, tell me when (what year approx) this was the state of affairs in Seoul? Seems difficult to imagine Seoul without subway stops for Itaewon, Gwanghwamun, Gimpo Airport and Yeouido. What year was line 6 built?
cheers. |

| I'd be surprised if Line 6 wasn't done before the 2002 World Cup, but I dunno. |

Line one was finished in about 1975 but extentions every year
lines 2-4 were finished 84-86
line 5 in about 1998
line 6 in 2002 or 3
line 7 north 1998 south 2002
line 8 in 2002
I always used line 4 to then taxi to itawon. I was well over my itaewon fix when line 6 opened |

| It had to have opened by 2002. I don't remember my first trip to Seoul back in 2001 (lived in Cheonan back then), but I do remember Itaewon being accessible by subway whenever I went there. I don't know when I started going there, though. Maybe in 2002 sometime. |

Here's a hint. One station changed name: World Cup Stadium.
Kimpo Airport Stn. was actually completed a month or so after Incheon Airport opened in March of 2001. |

First time I came as a tourist was in 2000. Line 7 and 6 weren't finished, although my Lonely Planet guide book had them on the map. You can imagine the effort I made on the first few days to figure out how to use these subway lines...
Thing I love about Seoul, they build whole new subway lines in the time it takes Toronto to dither on about building on additional subway stop to an existing line. |

Line 7 was opened from the north end until all the way to Konkuk University before 2000ish. About June 2000 I believe, the rest of it opened.
The Itaewon line opened around early 2000ish, but there were a few stations around Itaewon that were closed until around the Spring of 2002. I remember the construction around Itaewon happening in 1998. It took a friggin long time to get that station up and running. Sorta kinda reminded me of Toront. (The above statement is bang on!)
BTW, Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

line 5 was completely finished in fall of 1996, it was opened to just before Yeouido and after Jangno sam ga before that. Made getting to Gimpo a heck of a lot easier
6 was opened before the World Cup, I was on it going out to the opening match from Itaewon.
not sure about the rest.
any info on further openings? I see work on the Bundang line in Gangnam but thats it. They really need a northern e-w line that mirrors line 7 south of the river |

| CLG has it on opening dates. Problem is that lines opened in sections not all at once. Other things I know. They are extending Bundang line to Wangsimni, changing the Yongsan-Songbuk tine to go to Guri shi in the next few months, building a line from Bundang to Yongin, building a line from Bundang to Suwon to Ansan, building a line from UIdong (Pukhansan ) to Chegidong, and building line 9 from Kimpo to Olympic Park. Interesting is if you look at the station map for Noksappyong you will see that it is planed to be an interchange station with line 11 and 6, so they must still have more plans. I also saw on one map that Incheon has plans for 4 lines, and that line 7 with go all the way to incheon then loop back towards Seoul. |
