kimchi

- Well-fermented kimchi contains four times as many lactic ferments as yogurt
- Kimchi that smells bad should be cooked

Fermented food is gaining popularity in the wake of the "well-being" trend. Of all fermented foods, kimchi is the staple food of Koreans. Made of fermented cabbage, radish, peppers, garlic, green onions, ginger, and pickled fish and shrimp, kimchi is a low-calorie product, yet it is rich in calcium, minerals, and vitamins A and C. Lactic ferments contained in kimchi are as effective as those contained in yogurt in restraining the growth of harmful bacteria in the intestines. Rich in fiber, kimchi is also effective in preventing large intestine cancer, while some 3,000 kinds of microorganisms contained in kimchi control the proliferation of Helicobacter, which causes gastritis and gastric ulcers, and Listeria, which causes food intoxication. Kimchi's popularity has soared since all such benefits were proven scientifically, making it a genuinely healthy product. The types of kimchi vary in accordance with the ingredients used in it -- cabbage kimchi, ponytail kimchi, radish kimchi, juicy kimchi, stuffed cucumber kimchi, radish water kimchi, young radish water kimchi Recently, with the rising awareness about healthy living, long-fermented kimchi that has been fermented for more than six months is enjoying enormous popularity among consumers.

I'm doing a lesson on commercials with my high school students this week. As an example and a dialogue for them to do I'm doing this. The best part is that no one can tell I'm just taking the piss.

Commercial Script.

Mrs. A: Marge, I have a problem. Im having a big dinner party Friday night, and Ive got a great main dish planned.
Mrs. B: So whats the problem?
Mrs. A: I just cant think of a good side dish.
Mrs. B: A good side dish? Have you heard about Lotte Kimchi?
Mrs. A: Lotte Kimchi? Whats that?
Mrs. B: Its a great little side dish imported from Korea.
Mrs. A: From Korea? Whats it like?
Mrs. B: Its made with delicious Korean cabbage left to rot, marinated in zesty hot pepper sauce.
Mrs. A: Now theres an appetizing idea. How do you serve it?
Mrs. B: You leave it outside in a big kimchi pot, scoop out as much as you want, and chop it up with heavy-duty scissors.
Mrs. A: That sounds easy and delicious. What does it go with?
Mrs. B: It goes wells with meat, chicken, fish, and even breakfast foods could always use a little kimchi.
Mrs. A: Im planning to serve Yorkshire pudding. Do you think Lotte Kimchi will go well with that?
Mrs. B: Honey, Lotte Kimchi will go well before, after, beside, on top of, and even in your Yorkshire pudding. Its Koreas gift to side dishes and flavor.

Narrator: When you cant think of a side dish think Lotte Kimchi. Koreas gift to side dishes and flavor.

Oh no. I spoke too soon. The Chosun Herald strikes back against realism.

"Scientists in Seoul claimed that 11 of 13 infected chickens started to recover from the avian flu after being fed an extract of kimchi"
