Because there's nobody left to kill.

Not really an original article though. Its common world opinion that everything bad that happens in the world is the direct fault of whichever current US administration which didn't recognize it and respond to it.

I think the world at large has to come up with more creative solutions than just looking/wondering what the U.S. administration will do to solve its problems.

First locally.. what can Africa do.. then regional areas.. like what could Europe do (its closer).. and also what can the Arabic-speaking world do (they really SHOULD be included in this type of discussion).

The old "U.S. has to respond with military action" isn't going to work anymore after Somalia, Iraq, etc.

I agree with Tiger Beer. Especially seeing as how many of the people demanding "humanitarian intervention" tend to be the same people who complain the loudest about US imperialism. Here's a hint: if you don't like US aggression, don't demand that the US go around bombing other countries.

Mind you, I probably can't accuse Hitchens of this inconsistency, since as far as I can tell he is now pretty much openly in favour of the US doing anything it wants to other countries.

Now that the blacks of Darfur have been wiped out by the Arab militias, the UN can stop worrying about whether this actually constituted genocide and get back to the key issues of the day. Namely demonising that threat to world peace, Israel, for its 'ethnic cleansing' of the Palestinians.

take the veto OUT of the security council...increase the membershipt there by a few countries.
The reason why nothing happenned through the un? China and (i think it was Russian) another country vetoed the action b/c of economic interests in The Sudan.

That's all. vetoes are KILLING the security council's usefulness.

The forced islamisation of Africa continues apace. While "Christian" nations don't care about christians being ethnically cleansed in obscure third world countries, the entire muslim world bands together to help eachother. Rolling Eyes

Yea, its a pretty sick world huh? The conflicts of reason and actuality make me wanna vomit.

In the old days the US Marines would save these kind of people. But now we'd be accused of killing brown skinned people and then deserving 911 becuase we invaded yet another Muslim place and of course we'd be reminded that one way or the other US involvement has disastrous consequences ie "Just look at Sudan!". Sudan posed no threat to the US and they had no WMD's! Just American cowboys acting like policeman of the world.

How come Arabs get to kill Black people but Frenchmen can't get away with a little discrimination now and then?

The widespread persecution of Christians is an increasing phenomenon in the Islamic world. Why is there no media focus?

Apostasy and blasphemy laws have often required that any Muslim who wants to change his religion, or any Christian who talks to them about Christianity, be executed.
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Printable.asp?ID=10242

in a single month during 1998, Egyptian police detained about 1,200 Christians in Al-Kosheh, near Luxor in Upper Egypt. Seized in groups of up to 50 at a time, many were nailed to crosses or manacled to doors with their legs tied together. Then they were beaten and tortured with electric shocks to their genitals while police denounced them as "infidels."

While muslims in europe are demanding free houses, Christians in the islamic world are being KILLED.

There was already a thread on this ("Darfur is over, no one left to kill")more than 2 weeks ago but hardly anyone noticed it.
BTW a buddy of mine who I first met while teaching in Korea is heading there (S Sudan) now... after Korea he went to Vietnam and then Angola to do landmine removal, now he's with the UN.

And my buddy and room-mate from Uni has been in Afghanistan for the last 3 years- stay away from me or you'll end up working in god-forsaken places.

I was hoping that this thread might inspire some self-reflection. And I see that I wasn't wrong; we have all dug deep to even further confirm what we held dear before reading it. I see Tiger Beer and OTOH criticizing Hitchens by criticizing the people criticizing Hitchens (whew!), dulouz mired in some racist fantasy, Rapier and bigverne hyperventilating about the spread of Islam, and finally myself indulging in a bit of tut-tut rhetoric.

I suppose it's touching that we were all able to see ourselves in this story, even if not in quite the way I might have wished.

Uh, when did anyone assist Sudan there?

edit: they're killing fellow muslims BTW, so there goes that theory of yours. Wink

By some reliable estimates, the Sudanese government or "National Islamic Front" has slain as many as 400,000 of its black co-religionists

Obviously nobody assisted the Christians/Dinkas who were being enslaved and ethnically cleansed by the Muslims. And the muzzies didn't need any help to do the job anyway. All muslims are united, whereas the fragmented diverse southern tribes are vulnerable because they speak different languages and aren't united under one religion.

Well yes. first they kill non muslims, then they kill eachother.

They use their black converts until they no longer need them. then the racism that is at the core of islam takes over. Black muslims can be made into slaves or killed, arab muslims can't.
(I already posted at length on this).

What a great culture, its really good of you to reccomend it to the rest of the earth. how liberal of you not to be against it.

400.000 blacks killed for their skin color! And not a sound out of the media! Wow.. i wonder how south africa deserved what it got then?

FYI, nearly every sudanese person is black. It wasn't racial smart one. The difference between the "arabs' and darfur residents was their mother tongues.

I suppose this is pretty much what I should have expected -- every post working that poster's own familiar hobbyhorse, and most of them could have been plucked from some other thread without anyone noticing the difference.

I did hope that someone might express at least a twinge of regret for not having lifted a finger to help the people of Darfur -- money given to aid organizations, perhaps, or even a letter to an editor or elected representative. Hitchens wasn't excoriating just our leaders, after all; I don't think any of us are really coming out smelling like roses.
