Yeah,

This one surprised me. Eddie Guerrero dead at 38...probably heart attack. Man, that is sad. The guy was one hell of a wrestler and great on the mic. He'll be missed.

He had a lot of drug problems throughout his career.

That does suck. He was one of my faves when I was watching wrestling a few years ago.

He's from a great wrestling family, and he had some classic matches in ECW (especially against Dean Malenko). He was a very good wrestler and a talented natural actor as well...

Tough loss to swallow in the wrestling world. He was in his prime.

No surprises here; he joins the ranks of other drug-abusing pro-wrestlers that have long since shuffled off this mortal coil...

Rick Rude, Davey Boy Smith, Curt Hennig, Brian Pillman (who also died at about the same age, I believe)--all drug related deaths.

Reportedly, he'd been free of illegal drugs (with the probable exception of steroids - which Vince McMahon seems to encourage...) and boozing for the last four years. He was also a "born-again" Christian according to Shawn Michaels. Some speculate that a recent concussion-causing "chair shot" he took (from "Mr. Kennedy") may have caused fatal damage.

Many wrestlers' deaths were due to their reliance on prescription pain-killers to keep them working while injured, and their recklessly mixing them with drinking (and the steroids...)

I guess they've already taped a tribute show, and a lot of the current WWE "superstars" were crying, including HHH (and his wife, Stephanie McMahon) and Eddie's long-time best friend, Chris Benoit, who was really broken up...

Thanks for the link. Of course, the WWE is avoiding the causal link between his "enlarged heart" and steroid use (which is understood to be practically mandated by Vince and co.)

Yes, I was shocked to learn it.

I figured it had to do with his past drug use.

I don't think he did 'roids, he used to work out with Benoit, who is one of the hardest working guys in the gym, and totally natural. I guess it's possible...

Both Eddie and Benoit were way more bulked up in the WWE than they were in ECW. When I saw "Summerslam" about 4 or 5 years ago in NY, HHH was a fairly slender guy wrestling "the Rock". After he was out a few months with an injury, he returned so bulked up that he was as wide as "Big Show". I know that he claims it's all natural, but it's also natural to cheat (especially if you think you can mask the substance in drug tests...) Of course, I might be wrong, but I'd bet that growth hormones are involved - probably mixed with steroids...
