Well, I was contemplating taking my computer in to have it checked out, but I've been advised to post my problem here first, hopefully someone can help me. I'll try to describe my computer's symptoms as well as I can (I don't know any techincal lingo, sorry)
whenever I shut down, or restart, I always get a message that says:
VJOIPERF.EXE or CICTSVRP.EXE - DLL initialization failed
(the application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down)
Sometimes (shutting down or restarting) I get an end program message for ISTsvcWND, for example.
Sometimes when i try to shut down or restart it doesnt do anything.
I also have to restart every few hours or so, becuase everything kind of stops working. nothing is frozen, but nothing really works.
What bugs me the most, is that when I'm watching a movie/tv show/listening to music, my computer has a half hour grace period before it makes this horrible "lawnmower" noise. I restart and it goes away.
I've run a full system scan with Norton, it doesnt tell me anything, I've done a free scan with panda software, it tells me I have adware and spyware, but doesn't tell me how to get rid of it.. =/
My computer is my lifeline here, so if anyone can help me I'd be sooo happy! thanks |

Those sound suspicious in themselves, especially since a search for those names came up with nothing, which leads me to believe they shouldn't be there.

Ah. Most likely you have the IST trojan. Somehow you've installed IST bar. Dump it. Kill it quick, 'cause it's loading ads onto your system, downloading programs without asking you, and eating up your bandwidth. It hijacks your browser, and will connect to sites to download things you don't want without asking.
First disconnect the internet, then check control panel and uninstall the program. Then search for IST and delete any programs associated with it. Then restart the computer without reconnecting to the internet. Use task manager to ensure that ISTsvc isn't running. Then reconnect the internet, download a better antivirus such as AVG, and an anti-adware program like AdAware, and a decent firewall program. Start the firewall, run AVG, then AdAware; and then see if your computer runs more smoothly. Whenever the firewall program asks about a program connecting, look at it, check the internet for any information on that program, and you should be able to catch most of the possible problems, and know which processes are most likely to be good.
Hope this helps.

Before disconnecting the internet, update your anti-virus program and download Spybot S&D, Adaware SE, Hijackthis, and Spywareblaster from www.majorgeeks.com . Install all of these programs and update their definition files (don't use hijackthis until you are out of options as you can screw up your computer even worse with it).
***Turn off your 'system restore' utility by going to 'START>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore', going to 'options' and unclicking the box for all drives.***
Restart your computer into safemode by pressing F8 repeatedly as soon as your computer starts to power up. Scan your computer with your AV program and all of the programs for the above, EXCEPT hijackthis. Clean anything you find.
If the problem persists, make a new directory on your C: drive (NOT ON YOUR DESKTOP) called "HJT" and put the file you downloaded for Hijackthis in that directory (hijackthis.exe). Run that program but DON'T FIX ANYTHING unless you want to fark up your computer. Instead, copy your scan results to your clipboard by selecting it and pressing 'ctrl + c' and post your results on www.cexx.org where someone will tell you what is safe to "fix".
Also, go to www.majorgeeks.com and download a firewall and AV program if you don't already have them. Start a new thread about this if you need help deciding which one to install. |
