GENEVA - The
World Trade Organization on Friday approved Saudi Arabia's bid to become the 149th member of the global group, winding up a 12-year negotiating process slowed by the country's participation in the Arab League boycott of
Israel.
The acceptance by all WTO members is necessary before a new member can be admitted, and Saudi Arabia made a number of agreements with different countries on opening up its markets |
This will be good if it forces Saudia Arabia to liberalize a bit. The more a dictatorship lets the outside world in, the fewer days it has left in power. |

Do you even know what the alternative is to this dictatorship that you speak of? If you think the House of Saud is bad, wait until you see what's waiting in the wings. |

Saudi has got a wide range of people but yeah, I'm afraid the liberal/westernized group is the exception and not the rule.
I think the OP was thinking more of long-term consequences (ie a couple decades or more). |
