"Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson told citizens of a Pennsylvania town that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting "intelligent design" and warned them Thursday not to be surprised if disaster struck."

I think they should arrest him for making terrorist threats. Laughing

Everyone knows intelligent design was created because the American supreme court has ruled that creationism cannot be thought in school, so it's really funny to see the people pushing this idea contend that it isn't creationism. It's kind of like watching a Monty Python skit.

My wife told me last night that I am living proof that Intelligent Design did not exist and could not exist.

Oh, it can be thought, it just can't be taught. Wink

But you're right. It is a whole lot like watching a Monty Python skit. A bad Monty Python skit. I rather like the idea of charging Pat with terrorist threats. Wonder if they could make it stick.

Yeah. Ironically, I wrote that post a few minutes after having told my students not to confuse the words thought and taught. It must have still been in the back of my mind for me to make that mistake.

Every once in a while there is a Freudian slip kind of thing where people type something that is not what they were consciously thinking. It's cute. I put the wink thingie in there, hoping you would not think I was slamming you for a typo.

When Pat Robertson was running for President, he intended to set up a special police force composed only of Christian policemen. If God tells these policemen that a person is about to commit a crime, these policemen would arrest that person whether he or she has already committed a crime or not.

He also intended to set up a special Federal court composed only of Christian judges. If a defendant breaks the law, stating that God those him or her to break the law, the Christian court would rule on whether or not the defendant really did receive that Divine message.

I understand that Pat Robertson has a law degree.
That means that he must know about the First Amendment, which states that there will be no national religion.
I wonder whether he fails to understand. whether he thinks he has found a loophole, or whether he proposes repealing the First Amendment.

After reading this, it wasn't hard for me to imagine Pat Robertson making the jump to setting up state sponsored Spanish-style inquisitions and burning "heretics" at the stake.

Well, I doubt it would be "Spanish-style". For one, the inquisitors' brown Fransiscan dress isn't very fashionable or practical. A brown shirt might best suit them. Wink
