For 2 or 3 weeks in feb.

I'm thinking just fly in & play it by ear. Do some beach time, do some easy national park hikes, whatever. No agenda other than to have an experience. I'm up for some South Asian flavors, smells, & commotion.

My first bit of research looks promising. Comments?

I was there last winter and it's a fantastic place. Didn't get to see the beaches, but the inland is beautiful. Don't spend too much time in Kandy- the lonely planet guide makes it sound amazing, but it's a little too touristy for my taste. definitely hit Sigiraya, and I liked the cavves at Dambulla too.

Local transportation is very cheap, but very, very crowded- get there early if you want any chance of a seat.

Spend a week helping out at the Tsunami relief work camps. A great way to meet other foreigners from around the world working with the locals to make things better.
