Suppose one wants to upgrade from hagwon to uni teacher. I have a ba in English Lit. But what kind of upgrade in qualifications is it possible to get?
I've heard of people getting their Masters in TESOL. By correspondence/computer. Then again going to China and just doing it full time. Or does one even need a Masters in Tesol or whatever.
What would impress those looking at resumes? A qualification one could obtain?
I think I'd rather just go somewhere, like China or wherever, and get it done going full time at it. Instead of spending off hours after the full time haggie job pecking away at it online.
Thanks. |

it depends on the quality of education that the university intends to supply.
higher tier universities like Yonsei require a Master's degree in English or TESOL plus a certain amount of experience (4 years, i think).
then tere are departments within that university with lesser requirements.
some higher tier unis also require you to perform well in a mock teaching session.
lower tier unis...like the crap hole i worked for a few years ago, only required a B.A. plus two years ESL experience.
IMO, a good TESOL certificate, a couple years experience, and a higher age (ie. over 25)will open a lot of doors...but mostly for lower tier schools.
for me, having good references definitely helped. |
