Saw the friendly this weekend on the telly. Was it just me or did they actually play well? (the poor three man defense on the counterattack notwithstanding...)
I thought their left flank was absolutely brilliant at times. Short accurate passes on the give and go. The quick one-two penetration cutting in to the box I thought they somewhat resembled the Arsenal side circa 2003.
Ok.. not quite Arsenal-esque then. At least not during the moments when they reverted back to the longball with three strikers up front waiting for something to happen. But I thought they kept this down to a minimum and went on with the good stuff.
It was entertaining.
Not something I can say for the Swedes who were looking totally jet-lagged.
Footy pundits, what are your thoughts?

i was there, and it was a pretty good game. korea did their usual trick of making great moves, getting in good positions, and then screwing the whole thing up. in particular seol ki-hyun wasted several good chances. lee young-pyo was awesome at times, dazzling with the skills and creating great openings- sadly the forwards as always just couldn't make much of them. also after scoring each of their two goals, they let in soft equalisers.
if advocaat can get them to up their concentration a bit, and make a half-decent striker out of any of them, then there'll be a few surprises in germany, in my humble opinion..
i couldn't believe sweden though.. really disappointing.. i wish they would play so dismally against england! |

I thought it looked like Sweden couldn't be arsed. When they did turn it on it was only after Korea scored. And let's not forget the Swedes were playing without the likes of Ibrahimovic, Ljungberg, Mellberg et al.
Yes, the Koreans looked good in patches, but as usual their finishing was absolutely dire at times. Seol Gi Hyun is a fucking donkey. And Park Ji Sung really should have won it at the end.
If Advocaat can get Korea to play with better imagination and quality in the final third then they might surprise some people in Germany. |
