Yes! Australia will be at the world cup! Now the whole world will be able to see them getting thrashed. |

Probly, but last night was a real heartstarter.
Out of interest, who would win between Oz and SK at the moment (nobrainer???)?
(hows about a thread merge?) |

I think the Aussies have a pretty solid side. I would say sides like Saudi and T&T are more in for a thrashing than anyone else. |

Come on Indy! At best they have a Bolton like side.....they have no chance of competing with the better European teams and the better South American teams. I could see them progressing out of a group if they get a nice draw, but not much further.
I know someone who was raving about the odds he got for England not getting into the last 8......that means going out in the first knockout game after group stages. Ok, good odds......... but good bet? I don't think so somehow. |

assuming no major injuries, England have to make the knockout stages with the team we've got going into this world cup.
Australia are going to be one of those "Well it's just nice to be here and anything else is a bonus" chumps

Baldrick, people said the same thing about Korea before the start of the last World Cup, and look what happened.
Not to mention both Korea and the Aussies had/have this man as coach (the one with the Golden Bollox) ...
I'm not saying I think the Aussies are the strongest side in the tournament, but I am saying there are sides more in for a hiding than Australia. The Aussies might play route-one, Wanderers type-football, but at least they have proven Premiership first-teamers who are class players (Viduka, Kewell, Cahill, Schwartzer, Emerton, Lazaridis).
And Baldrick, Bolton are third in the Premiership. They must be doing something right! |

Yeah wanderers are third in the Prem! So thats a compliment for the Aussies. Ok, I'll accept that they can avoid a good hammering and embarrassing scorelines, and going out on a limb I will say that at best, absolute maximum, they will make the last 16. They will stuggle out of the group by maybe grabbing one shock win and grinding out a couple of 0-0 draws. At best. I mean, could you see them getting a result against ANY of the 8 seeded teams? |
