|
|
| This might be a topic that's been done before, but I've just started looking for jobs in Korea and seems like every ad I respond to that advertises public school teaching jobs then writes back to me saying there are none, but that they have great jobs at language institutes they'd like to hook me up with... Do they make up all of these jobs and details just to get you to write to them? Are there any reliable recruiting agencies? Tx... |

This should give you a taste of Korean business ethics. My other favorite is ads for university/college positions where they DO NOT indicate that you would be working for an institute but when you send in your resume it turns out that they want you to teach institute (hakwon) classes, not Uni ones. |

I'd say they are using the public school jobs as come ons. Those jobs will open up in Feb./March. (Hiring will start sooner, but I don't know when.)
About the only thing you can do is state very clearly that you are only interested in public school jobs and firmly but politely decline any responses about hakwon jobs. |

Long ago I use to tutor this real estate agent in Bundang. I was looking for a new place to live and showed him a website. The prices were reasonable and the pictures made the places look great.
"All those listings are fake. None of those apartments will be available".
He goes on and on about the industry is so bad that way.
I see him right click a few pictures and save them to his hard drive. I ask him why he was doing that.
"I need the pictures for my next advertisement." |

No..the best is when a Hogwon names itself after a University, but has nothing to do with the University.
"No...this is a Hogwon. Where did you get the idea this was a university position?" |

| There are appox. 20 to 25 university jobs posted on Dave's Korean Job Board at the present time. Just for grins, anyone want to speculate how many of these are fake? |

Maybe they are fake, but my guess is they are real universities that treat their staff so badly that they have to look for new teachers half way through the semester. |

1/2 way thru the semester???
This is the end of the year in Korean unis-the natural time to advertise for new positions. |

Hi,
On the ad you placed on the eslcafe website it said that there are
public school teaching positions available. The following is what I
read on the posting:
University position 46M annual and Public School opening position In
Seoul and throughout Korea
A4 Education located in Kangnam, Seoul is seeking
for creative and motivated teachers for ESL and Business English position.
I. Opening Position
a) 10M for 10Weeks Business English
b) Annual 46M Magician English teacher
c) 8 PublicSchool teachers
d) Bilingual English Consultant
e) 1 month English camp 3.5M
Could you please tell me what is meang by '8 public school teachers'
then and why this was posted if it is not a public school position? It
is so confusing when trying to find a teaching position when the
advertisements are not honest.
Kind thanks,
*****

No, not quite. It's so typical. One more reason why many foreigners who come to Korea to teach end up being bitter about their experience. |

In my experience, you can ward them off with tons of questions.
Example: Here in China there are tons of Korean international schools. These are great deals because you get Korean wages (2.0 mil a month) and live a Chinese lifestyle (I manage on about 6,000-9,000 won a day). I emailed one my resume on a lark, and surprise surprise, they wanted me to start work that week. One of the more hilarious email exchanges:
"Hello? Hello? Can you come right away to spread your dream???"
Anyway, I answered:
"I would love to spread my dream. Can you put me in touch with another teacher so I can ask him questions about your school? Also, please send a picture of the apartment I would be living in. Further, my tourist visa is expiring so I will need you to get me a working visa and a Foreign Experts booklet. I am ready to start when all these things are taken care of. Thank you for the opportunity!"
I never heard from them again. |

You misinterpreted the word "come". |
