hi all,
I really appreciate your feedback/advice.
I'm finishing a year contract at a Korean college. My visa is only for 11months. I must renew it for the FINAL month (12 month) of my contract. A few years back I worked for a scam school fascist director who said he'd prevent me from working in korea because I listed him (and his institute) in the archives of online blacklist pages and school watch.com's. Anyway, Should I renew my visa for ONLY 1 month OR should I finish my contract without renewal? I already have a university job lined up for January - so I must leave after my contract ends to renew my visa for a 1 month University contract (camp). Also, I hold two passports (US and Canada). When I worked for the scam school, a few years back, I was issued a visa from my Canadian passport. Now I'm working on a visa issued from my US passport. What's your advice?
many thanks

your VISA can expire before you finish your contract. It's your ARC that must be valid during the whole thing. If that expires before your contract is over, you'll need to extend it with immigration.
My VISA expired about 6 months ago, and that just means that I cant' leave the country and return without purchasing a new re-rentry permit.
As for the dual-passports bit, I wouldn't worry about it. Just do what you like.

About 2 months before your visa expires, just go to immigration and get it extended for 6 more months. My husband and I had the same 11-month visa and it was no problem at all. You don't want to be at the airport with that visa expired, t hough. Even though your ARC is okay, they will take you to the little "immigration" room and ream you about staying in the country illegally.
So just get it extended so you have the stamp in your passport. They won't deny it to you, so that's no problem. You can take in your contract with the dates on it, your ARC, and it'll be a fairly simple process. |
