I am now in the market for a tablet pc.
Where exactly in Young-san can I find a second hand shop that sells them.
Or even where I can find a new model?
Also what are the price ranges?
thanks!!!

Can't help you at all, but just for the sake of expanding our knowledge on the subject, I am curious about two things:
1. What led you to decide that you needed/wanted a tablet pc (as opposed to a regular laptop or a PDa of some sort)?
Not judging the decision at all here, just curious. I think the whole concept of a tablet pc is cool I just haven't found a good reason to justify one.
2. Could you keep us updated on how it goes as far as shopping for one and then using it?
I wouldn't have any input on such a thread but I would really enjoy reading it. |

Oh ok well firstly I have a pda.
But is it too small. It has many uses, but I can not connect to a printer as easily, or write up a document (small screen).
Getting online with my old pda required hardware that would use up a memory slot.
Now it is time for me to replace my notebook computer which I found cumbersome.
So two reasons I need a tablet pc is for pda/notebook functionality.
My current notebook was just to heavy to carry and use like a pda.
BUT a pda is very small so I can't quickly use it like my notebook with out giving up a range of functions.
A tablet pc can make use of the internet (i do not need some special hardware (intergrated wireless), this solves my printing needs.
The size gives me notepad! I can jot down notes and set aside the screen (leaving the keyboard section at home). It is larger but still much smaller
than a notebook. If i need to print then I bring the whole unit, but bring the tablet portion into my class for keeping attendence.
I do not need it for gaming mostly for pda like functions (touch screen), and making my lesson plans. Heck I am a techie! |

I didn't know there were tablet pc models that let you separate the keyboard from the rest of the device. I thought that the display just folded over and you were still stuck with the whole thing. Do you have links to models that do what you mentioned?
A tablet pc would be neat for doodling on. I just picked up a wacom tablet and I'm thinking now that it would be much better if I could take the pen right to the screen instead. I also write much faster than I type and I think a tablet pc would make for more efficient word processing. |

I just bought a Fujitsu T4010 and a battery pack to replace the DVD drive. It's a folding unit with a flippable screen. I shopped around a fair bit before I picked one up, and so far I rather like it. Touch screen works fine with no issues, run to write in MSN instant messenger instead of typing, and with the extra battery I get about 8 hours of life with all the bells and whistles turned on.
1.89M for the base unit. 90 for the extra RAM to bring it up to 1GB, and 220,000 for the extra battery. (A second battery to hot-swap with the main battery lasts a bit longer and is cheaper (130), but I wanted to swap as little as possible.
Useful for putting into the tablet mode and watching TV shows while exercising or sitting on public transit. |

Gord, you mean to say that with 2 batteries, you get 8 hours, right? I see online that the test sites are only able to get about 3.5 hours on the stock battery (which is really great) with the screen set at like 50% and the wifi turned on.
Umm...
By the way, I happen to be conducting a survey on Fujitsu laptops. You could really help me out here. Could you please answer the following questions?:
1. What is your exact address.
2. When are you most likely to leave your laptop unattended?
3. Do you have any large pets?
Thank you! |

I get about 4 and a half hours of normal usage at half-screen brightness and just reading or doing Internet browsing on the regular battery. If I turned off wi-fi and ran the screen at minimal brightness, it says I can get almost six hours with the stock battery.
I'm in Japan at the moment. I managed to run the laptop at the airport for and on the plane for a total of about four hours (wifi turned off) and did some typing, and I still had more than half the battery left. Nothing processor intensive which would have ued up the battery faster.
The machine also includes a last-ditch internal 3 minute battery so a person can swap out batteries if the primary batteries die. One day, that will save my life. |
