|
|
I'm planning the initial stages of getting my butt to Korea to teach English (hopefully around Aug '06) and I have a few questions. The first thing is that I'm a classically trained bassist (actually, my bachelors is in Music and I'm finishing up a Performance Diploma from Indiana U in May) and I was wondering if the policy on private english students would extend to private music students. Also, can a person have more than one job? I've been trolling around the forums for the past week trying to find answers to all of this and I'm still a little unsure. Also, if anyone can point me to websites of prominent Korean orchestras I'd appreciate it as well. I've found a few but I keep hearing about more that I can't find no matter how many things I google:p.
So yeah, my idea is to teach English, bass, and attempt to get into a Korean orchestra in Seoul. Any help given is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! |

A friend with experience in pottery got a job teaching english and pottery at a high school out in Ichun. Lots of Korean schools like to specialize: music, art, technology, animation, etc. Teaching posts there are probably few and far between and hard to get. But it doesn't hurt to cast about. |

Thanks for the help! I'll definately look into that. I'd really like to be able to teach more along the lines of my principle profession whenever possible so as to maybe make some inroads in regard to the Korean music world:D w00t!
oh, and because I'm a retard I clicked the wrooong button when replying and it seems that I reported the post with what I wrote above. I'm sure the mods will be able to figure it out (it can't be the first time this has happened) but in case you get a weird message it's totally my fault. Sorry!
stupid not sleeping making me all bleery and weird... >:p |

Generally speaking, an employer has to convince Immigration that a prospective employee is more qualified than a Korean to do a job. It is automatic when it comes to English because of the bias here. That may well not be true in music since music is no one's 'native language'. |

Hmm.... another good point. Maybe I should make a recording to send off with my resume in case I apply for some music jobs. Might help? Thanks for the tip! |
